Jim, a real world answer is that you can shoot it with the recoil spring in it until it starts to not want to go into battery. If it is a service pistol or used CCW, I wouldn't be quite soo cavalier I do this with my Hi Power and Commander, neither are primary arms but I do shoot the heck out of them. I keep spare recoil springs around and use Wolff

For standard ammo, the ballpark number would be about 2500 - 5000 rounds or until cycling problems occur.
