Tactical light
Guys can you suggest a good tactical light for the Glock 17? For home defense use.

I was looking at the TLR-4 today. Looks pretty nice for $149.00 and i like the laser feature. Its a smaller unit than the TLR-1 too although it puts out about 30 less lumen.

+1 on the TLR-1. I ordered my TLR-1s up from Primary Arms for $89 on sale. Heck of a deal!

I have used the same x200 with pressure pad set up for tactical and patrol situations on a G35/G22 for years without any issues. After I left LE I still take it the range and still have it set up for HD now.

The TLR-1s, might as well get the strobe version. For about $110 why not.

Get a TLR-1. With the money you'll save from not buying a surefire, you can get some crimson trace grips for the light/laser combo.

vote for TLR-1s
Candlepowerforums.com deals with everything flashlight (even antiques)... lots of discussion on Streamlight and Surefire. Here is one example: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...amlight-TLR-1s
The TLR-1 s has the stobe (I turned my off... don't need the confusion switching between modes during a firefight) and a little better light beam than the TLR-1 without the strobe. Got mine for $100, which was $150 less than the Surefire-X300. I like the TLR...hot spot of beam is exactly at point of aim, so works nearly like about a 3 inch laser spot. Lights up the whole "subject" so know before shooting. And, spill light is way more than necessary to ID a subject so loaded gun does not need to be pointed at subject... more like 45+ degrees to the side.
The laser hasn't been getting good reviews (just not bright enough) so I skipped that.

We have TLR-1's on our duty G21's & they've been taking a beating for a few years now. I bought a TLR-1S for my personal G21, but don't really use the strobe. The strobe is a really good concept IMO, but in a stressful SD/HD situation, I'm probably not going to be able to hit the switch the required number of times, with the correct amount of pressure to activate the strobe in time for it to make a difference. More training would help I guess, but I just choose not to use it.
I think the Surefire X300 is a better light, but for the price you can almost buy three TLR-1's. I have a X400 on a carbine. The 400 has a laser, but there again, I don't use the darn laser & I'd be happier if that extra little switch wasn't there in my way. At my age, the less I have to think about, the better.

I highly recommend Safariland Rapid Light System (RLS). After being shown one at my LGS when I bought my G22, I later got one for Christmas.
It is a quick on/off flashlight and mount. It can be carried and used separately from the pistol and attached quickly with gross motor skills.
Check it out:

Liked my first tlr1 so much I bought a second for my shotgun. Streamlight claims they are impervious to shock. Goes on and comes off with super ease. I can take it off a glock and mount it to any picatinny rail I have in seconds. Have run it on my g21 and g20 with no problems except dirty winchester white box ammo seemed to stain the lens a bit. Next time I will put some tape over it.
I also have one s model with strobe. In my opinion its difficult to activate without a stressful situation. More likely to activate it by accident. Id rather have the non strobe model.

If/when you can find one, they tend to run around $230ish.......

I have a Streamlight TLR-1s and a Surefire X300. Both are great lights, but I prefer the TLR-1s. They both have about the same brightness and run-time. I think that the TLR-1s has the better beam and is built just as tough. The X300 performs good also, IMO it is just overpriced, its not worth over double the TLR-1s.

I usually do not use a light on a gun but I have a Nebo that works well and has been on the gun for a bunch of range trips.

I've got the factory g21 and g19 threaded barrels in prep for future supressor. I figured id get them before they dry up. I forget the website but there is a place that had them for I think 185. Palmetto state armory is 220 which was the best deal I could find before that.

I would rate three popular LED weapon lights as follows...
Good: Streamlight TLR-1
Better: Insight WX150
Best: SureFire X300
All are good, and will serve well for home defense and bedside use, though the Insight and SureFire appear to be more hardened for serious use in the field. If I were going to war, I'd take the SureFire X300.
Note: The Streamlight TLR-1 attaches with a set screw, rather than a slide-on and lock set-up, like the other two. Depending on the shooter, this is both a pro and a con.
In terms of lamp performance, you'll be well pleased with any of the above, but the SureFire and Insight are optically better, for what that's worth to most people.
I currently own...
- SureFire X200A
- SureFire X200B
- Insight XTI Procyon
..and I have examined and tried out the TLR-1 (both old and new generations); and it's a very nice light from a good company.
The SureFire X300 replaces the X200A and X200B. And the Insight WX150 replaces the XTI Procyon.
I can tell you that the Insight sure gives the SureFire a real run for its money—and at $100.00 less!
But the SureFire is still the absolute best of the bunch.
