.44 mag SD ammo options

Hello Mr Ayoob,

I recently found a beautiful 4" .44 mag which I intend to use on my hiking adventures in the Northwest. However, after shooting it... OMG! is it a hoot to shot AND accurate too! It may even replace my beloved .357 3". I see now why Elmer Keith was so enamored with the .44.

In the woods, I can find some good Garrett or Buffalo Bore ammo to fit my needs, but what would be a good street carry ammo choice?
- are .44mags prone to over penetration?
- is this like the .357mag and best shot outdoors? (an extreme hearing loss danger)
- would 44 specials be a better choice for indoor needs?

Thanks again!

The rule of thumb answers to your three questions are:

Yes,
yes,
and yes.

Enjoy your 4" S&W .44 Magnum. The "4 X .44" is one of the most useful outdoorsman's handguns, IMHO.

best,
Mas
