16 pounds?? hahah purhaps if you halfed your comment it would be about right "give or take".

1 gallon of water weighs 8 lbs, I have less than that in my pack.

114oz in pack = less than 8pounds

I really hope that we don't have to rely on a backpack full of anything to survive. After reading Daltons's thread of what shape are you in? I'm not fat at all but I don't wanna carry my zombie bag anywhere. Good luck to everyone.

Being in shape is important, but you would be surprised what you can do at a moment's notice when you know you really have to.

Electronics

Does everyone realize that most of these electronics, including your car and even small batteries will be rendered inoperable if they aren't shielded; and we are hit by an E.M.P. For smaller items you can get Faraday Bags at various places on the internet that work just fine.

Please do not ruin this thread with EMP stuff. There are plenty of other threads for that, or you can always start a thread for it specifically.

basic disaster preparedness and the 72hr bug-out-bag being a mobile element [in general] is a universe apart from EMP, Zombie, End of the World, Mad Max stuff. Which I agree, is not what this thread is about.

I just did a search from all angles and couldn't find even one that promoted filling your B.O.B. with stuff that will be useless after a good ole HOT EMP.

Carrying all that useless stuff might help your cardio and endurance though.

Basic survival does not have to include electronics and nobody here is claiming that it does. This is a thread about basic mobile survival needs with an average pack weight of 25-35 lbs and a crisis duration of 72hrs. That is the context [generally speaking]
