Not to pick the fly crap out of the pepper, but that is a brake, not a flash hider. If you want a brake, that's cool; but try shooting it at night before you make up your mind. Those AK74 brakes make some bright green and orange fireballs, depending on the powder. They are also loud, at least if you're the fella in the next lane.
At the end of the day, it is preference. You can have a brake, or a flash hider, but not both. Devices that claim both are inadequate compared to devices that do one or the other well.
Just my two cents.
Oh, and a good sling is more than just a nice-to-have.

Oh, I dont plan on shooting it at night and I dont have anywhere to even test that out(range closes b4 dark or at dusk or what ever and allows no "night fire") so im not really worried about the flash.

So it's more a range toy than a social tool?

That is correct.nt plan on "going into war" with it or anything lol. Though if I had to im sure it would work. For that(social work) id probably use my Remington 870 with buckshot

That will produce an even greater flash fireball.
Yet, a plain pump shotgun is often suggested as the best home defense tool.
I have an 870 for this also and have no plans on getting a flash hider on my 870, nor on my handguns.
However, I figure that I would never shoot at an unidentified target so if I use a flash light on my night weapon whether it be an 870, 7.62x39, or handgun the likelyhood of flash from the muzzle causing short term night blindness is very low.
I shoot at an indoor range sometimes with all the lights out except the target lit up. The muzzle flash whether it be from a 9mm, .454 , 7.62x39, or 12 gauge does not prevent me from repeated hitting my target quickly.

agreed did plenty of night fire in the military and on the PD with multiple weapons some with flash hiders(M4) most without(shotgun,MP5,duty weapon, and yes the COMPENSATED glock 19) and never had a problem with the flash bothering me..and the .357 magnum will produce a flash with the best of them with those 125 grain full power loads ...same deal with the supposed flash from the compensated glocks "destroying" your night vision...shot one quite a bit and never bothered me...and strange some of the most respected guys in the business actually RECOMMEND compensated guns for CC/HD/SD.
so while I dont plan on ever using it in a HD situation and im not really one of those SHTF type types that have shelters and years supplies of stuff..Im just not that worried about the flash...im assuming that the compensator on the 74 is the same deal on their military models(from some pics ive seen of guys with 74's they look exactly the same...if it(the flash) was really that bad would they issue them to the military lol..

Use the rest of your money on surplus magazine. Aim has 'em for $11 each.
Good luck!

Great link, thanks. Just ordered a IDF standard sling for my AK.

Much much better handling of the gun. Next is a Tapco G2 trigger if it does not already have it. Most likely will have it.

Buy cleaning supplies and a small air compressor. Simple green and water, maybe a dedicated pan to boil water in for cleaning. If i shot corrosive i'd be worried about rusting my gun so much i'd have to run home and clean it, and water is the only thing that works. Bolt, barrel, gas tube, anything the primer salts touch has to be cleaned, with water. HOT water. Then use the compressor to blow it out. I wonder how many people forgot to do this to their 74 then a week later had a unpleasant surprise of everything fouled and rusted when they checked their rifle?

yup, I use water(last time just used the hose) and windex(sprayer makes it easy to soak everything good..did all the surfaces that may get the salts from the corrosive ammo..then cleaned it as I normally would once it was "washed" then oiled it and then every couple days id take it out to check to make sure I didnt miss something.Good idea on the compressor though i just got one for Christmas to use for airbrushing models...I guess it would double as doing this also with the right attachment!
as a matter of fact i think b4 i go to bed I will take it out to give it another quick check..never hurts I guess

Are you trying to make a point, or just be disagreeable?
It was a simple enough question.

I just thought it was funny.

It's really not that big of an issue.

Either a) my swinging cod, or b) a firearm intended for use against targets that shoot back.
