ESSE Knives
Does anyone have one? Opinions? http://www.eseeknives.com/index2.htm
My bud showed up yesterday with one of these:
This thing is built like a tank, and has a NO BS warranty. They make a 6" as well as some smaller models, and then there is the Junglas....

I own both. They are top notch, heavy duty, sharp, first class tools. The Junglas is a great camp knife and trail knife for cutting and chopping. Their blades are heavy duty like none I've ever seen. Not cheap, but worth the freight.

I have the Izula and the ESEE 4. Both excellent and worth the money. I have beaten the crap out of my Izula and I recently got the ESEE 4 for a backpacking knife. I choose the ESEE 4 over the 5 due to weight. Remember their blades aren't stainless, so keep them oiled on the edges and you will have no rust issues. If a little appears, some use will take the surface rust right off. I believe ESEE is coming out with a few stainless versions soon.

They are good, tough knives for camping/out doors. I rarely carry mine (pre-ESEE RC-3) due to the edge holding properties of 1095, but that is the trade off for the toughness.

If anybody's interested, Knifecenter.com is having a Memorial Day weekend sale which includes the ESEE knives.
I just picked up an Izula w/sheath only (not the "complete survival kit") for less than $50.

or, to the ESEE Izula offerings

I have a ESEE 4 and 5. Awesome knives for the price. If you never held one before, they will feel like blocks.. but you can get used to it.

I've owned an ESEE-4 for a couple years, but have never used it. I don't want to scratch it up. Beautiful knife!

I have the Izula Rat. No complaints at all. I modified the case because I felt it was too large for good concealment as a neck knife. However that's just a matter of personal preference.

I have an Izula, Izula II, and an ESEE 3.
I'd buy more if I were in the market for one.

I have a 4. It's not a bad little knife for the price, but their grips are REALLY small. Nice for carrying, but it gives me blisters after a bit. I got a couple Swamp Rats (a HRLM and a RMD) and the ESEE hasn't seen the light of day since.

Go on ebay. There is a guy I think in Florida who makes super pouches for the Esee knives.

I have a few.
The ESEE-3 is the biggest fixed blade I can easily conceal and carry every day. I can't recommend it enough for this purpose!
I used an ESEE-6 as my only blade on a 2 day Primitive Skills class. It did quite well with everything from splitting wood for a fire to carving the parts for a bow drill kit. The balance on the '6 is perfect, making it feel much lighter than it is.
The LS is the "missing link" between the '4 and the '6, being finely balanced, as well as having just the right amount of blade and handle for an incredibly versatile field knife. I like it so much I bought another. When I go into the woods, the LS is what I wear.
The Junglas is more of a big knife, or short sword, than a machete. It does what a machete does, but will wear you out faster from swinging it. The advantage is that you can use it to baton wood and chop through things, and other chores a true machete is just way too thin for.

The '5 feels like a block because it is a 1 lb slab of 1/4" steel. It was desinged for prying and sawing your way out of a downed vehicle's body. Unless you need a sharpened prybar, no reason to have an ESEE-5, but if you do, it's the best sharpened prybar around. I had an ESEE-5 and sold it, but recently bought another to go in my Bugout Bag to have a knife that I could use as a prybar if needed.
The '4 feels like a block because it is too thick for its tiny handle. It's handle is the same length as the ESEE-3, but the steel is thicker. I sold mine and never looked back, because the handle was just too small for the blade thickness.
If you really want an ESEE-4, but hate the balance, there is a site that sells custom handles that lengthen it a bit and make the '4 into a nicely balanced knife.

A long time ago, I got a Fehrman which is completely excellent...however for the money I spent on it, I could have gotten multiple ESEE's with their equally awesome warranties. 1095 may not be as good as S3V, but not to any extent I would ever discover. Definitely get the ESEE, use it and abuse it.

I will. I promise to challenge the piss out of it, and send it back if I do good.

My test, y'all might wonder? A roll of carpet. No contest. I'll take this knife to hell with me if I had a choice. I see a Junglas in my future.

I see a 5 and Junglas in the next couple of months, as I've cleared out my Benchmade list today.

Off topic, but Angry Fist, never noticed the Rancid chorus beneath your posts... Nice touch! They're local heroes from very near where I grew up.
