I am still building slowly. In the past I have felt good at the end of lifting weights, like I could go for one more set.
5 reps
5 sets
Was adding weight every time.

I may have met my limit last night. I got my 5x5, but...and the bicycle ride to work went from normally easy to difficult.

We will see how I feel on Wednesday. I may add 5#s, I may give my body an extra couple days to build to this level.

You might want to look into some home workout videos. Look up "Insanity" and "P90X". I did Insanity and lost 25 lbs in two months. Now I am doing P90X (three weeks left) and lost another 5 lbs to reach my goal weight. Insanity does not require any equipment. P90X requires dumb bells and a chin-up bar. (or you could use resistance bands) Both come with nutrition guides. Both can be done in your apartment.

I have not tried Tapout XT or Rushfit yet, but both look good too.

I suggest the book, starting strength by Mark Rippetoe. It's focuses on the squats, dead lift, cleans, and bench press, core compound movements that should be the basis of any workout routine.

No problem, I was trying to be a little sarcastic/numerous. I believe not only was sStarting Strength mentioned earlier in this thread but is mentioned in about every thread in this forum for the last five years.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't see it recommended in this thread.

I'll agree with "Starting Strength."

Just go in there, do squats, bench, dead lifts, military press and maybe barbell curls and sit-ups. Start with those, and just press on and on and on.

Don't get caught up with the newest fad of some BS isolation exercise. Just go in there ready to sweat your ass off and pick up some heavy stuff, and keep doing it.

Best of luck, the main thing is getting your ass in the gym, after that it's cake.

Come on now, I'm doing individual finger curls with a $25,000 machine at my gym and it is doing WONDERS for my hand definition! All the rage!

I remember all the weight lifting books I was reading in the 90's, almost all of them were packed with isolation exercises with very few "compound movements". And even the few they had were muddied with a thousand variations designed to selectively work a specific muscle. Nowadays I do compound movements almost exclusively and the list of exercises I perform has shrunk dramatically. I'm glad the exercise culture pendulum is swinging back to the basics (though in the right gyms it never left).

Now that Pavel is splitting with Du Cane(dragondoor), it will be interesting to see where they go. Hopefully Pavel will generate a denser book without so much hyperbole and dragondoor will whip out a new exercise hot shot.

Pavel has stated that he'll support the scheduled RKC trainings through Jul 2013. In the meantime, Dragondoor is still a good resource for a lot of good material. We'll see how it shakes out after that. I asked an RKC that I know and apparently they're being kept in the dark too.

Not much help video-wise, and I know it sounds gimmicky. But in all honesty L.L. Cool J's platinum workout book is by far the best excessive program I've ever come across. It's him, his personal trainer, and his personal dietician who wrote it and they cover absolutely everything in easy simple ways and keep it really interesting and fun at the same time.
