So if the bad guy is writhing in pain from being shot, say 5 or 6 times, you should continue shooting until he is motionless? So only when he STOPS MOVING will he be considered not a threat?
If he had a gun, yes, I can see that. A knife at 20 plus feet away and he is in the fetal position on the ground, but, he is still "moving".
Is that what they teach at the Academy?
Most of the instructors I have heard say that you do not want to kill the person, you want to stop them. Stop them from what? Stop them from putting your life in danger. So that means if they are charging at you with a knife, you shoot them until they are no longer a threat. If they hit the ground, you stop shooting. If they get up, you shoot again. It is not, you shoot them while they are laying on the ground until they are motionless. Motionless equates to dead.
Again, Im not disputing what the officers did in the video. I am disputing what some are saying on here about what is justifiable force and what is not justifiable force.
I know of nobody who teaches to continue firing until the perp is motionless.

This is the internet. It is completely filled with people who have never done this job, never had an ounce of training or experience in any aspect of it, and are somehow experts in it because they saw a short segment of video that is of poor quality and does in no way give the totality of the circumstances. They've likely never had to shoot anyone, have likely never had their lives threatened by anyone with a weapon, but they know how they'd react because they thought about it. They don't need facts. They don't need an investigation. They make a snap judgement, and can't possibly be wrong because they are the smartest person they know.
What are you thinking 4949?

So i guess since Rodney kings video only showed the beating part and nothing else, he must of done something to deserve getting beat for 10 mins right?

I'm thinking if people do not make poor decisions thus putting themselves in the position to be beaten/shot/tased/arrested, then they wouldn't have to worry about it, and the mmqb's could find another hobby.

If it weren't for drugs and alcohol, I wouldn't have a job. I'd probably be a teacher then

Jesse Jackson Stirs the Pot
Frankly, I'm surprised it took Jesse Jackson this long to stick his race-baiting, big-***** nose into this case.
Mentally ill man's killing by police protested

"The idea of him being killed execution-style in broad daylight is overwhelming," said Jackson"

Seriously? Even the skewed view of CNN's video doesn't look "execution-style."

Ron Scott, spokesman for the coalition, said there appeared to be a pattern of police shootings in Saginaw.
|
And on what bogus basis is the Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality making this claim for Saginaw, a city about 100 miles north of Detroit? The Coalition is also launching its own investigation. wtf? It's not enough Michigan State Police, the Michigan Attorney General, and the freaking US Department of Justice are investigating?

Wow. This flew under the radar; I hadn't seen anything in the metro D press. It's only a matter of time before Jesse and Al stick their opportunistic butts into this since all the officers except maybe one appeared to be white.
Considering the investigation took 2 months and involved State Police as well as local authorities, not to mention the US DOJ is eyeballing it, I've got to believe the conclusion reached is supported by the facts.
The last video is the key. Here's a guy, armed with a knife, facing 8 officers, several of which had patrol rifles aimed at him. The suspect clearly was not giving up his weapon. While I find it hard to believe not a single car's audio was working, the sequence of events suggests the conversation led the officers to believe the subject was going to attack.

The video is all from the same car.
Only the mic from that car would be recorded on that car's video.

He started walking toward officers on the left with a deadly weapon. What are they supposed to do?

Nothing new or constructive?
I guess I'll have to start the ball. I want to preface this statement by saying, I'm a CJ student and my intention is not to armchair quarterback. I am looking at this as a case study of sorts. The officers reacted they way the felt was needed and its not my place to judge. This shooting seems justified, although unfortunate. Maybe some sympathetic fire played a role, but a justified shoot is a justified shoot. Glad no officers or civilians were harmed. I don't think the shooing was a race issue as the media has portrayed it to be. If the suspect was purple and the officers were green I speculate they would have reacted in the same manner.
