I admit I am a little jealous but I don't think I would go that far. I would have to get awfully tired of waiting for one to show up on Gunbroker before I'd consider something that severe.

Interesting
The 59 was introduced about the same time as the 39-2, so I just assumed the 59 series had no dash.

Like I said, the 59 and 39-2 were introduced at the same time. The 59 is based on the 39-2. It's just that the grip feels like a 2x4.

Thanks
I haven't had good lighting the last couple of days, but I'm going to retake the pics of the 39 and 59 as soon as I do.

I saw a number of the very first 59s choke on the police range after they were issued. Some laid it on to mag followers and others the feed ramp. Smith told the particular department to send them back so I kind of doubt the mag follower excuse. The officers were all carrying 39s so it definitely wasn't a familiarity issue.
2X4 is exactly my description of the 59 grip. it made the P-35 seem svelte (well it is really).

Yeah, its amazing how big and square the 59's grip is even for a double stack.
A Hi-Power feels so much better.

As a collector ,your to be congratulated on a very nice purchase. As you are well aware, it was the "no dash" that earned the Model 39 as a "jam-o-matic" when it first came out. The -2 had a redesigned extractor that resolved the problem.Have always found them to be outstanding autos. It would seemas though many agree as they are rarely encountered "for sell".

Yeah, I know the early extractors had issues. I'm going to put some rounds down range and see how it does. I strictly bought it for collector's piece though.

My wife and I were planning to go up to Pennsylvania for a couple of days. We figured we could tour Gettysburg, or Bac's gun room. We decided Gettysburg would take less time.

Very nice! The older S&W autos have been becoming my favorite older type pistols to buy, after picking up the 1006 I can't stop wanting more.

Congratualtions! The M39 is a gun that has become underrated in the last two decades. A 539 is the even nicer variation.
Enjoy.
