Columbus day whiners.
What gives with these people? So here's the deal. If anybody would like to go back in time and change history so that the native Americans could have continued warring with and killing/oppressing each other without the Europeans getting involved, knowing full well that you would have never been born without history having played out exactly as it had then please continue stroking your ego by posting how horrible the past is and how egregious and unacceptable a situation it was that humanity wasn't yet as advanced in the 1500s as you have decided it should have been. Otherwise, STFU.

I say End columbus day. Its a pain in the ass when the Post Office and banks are closed on a fluff holiday.

The Columbus Day holiday was taken away from my company, many years ago.
I don't miss it.
I get the day after Thanksgiving, every year, instead.
BTW. . . I don't agree with moving a holiday to put it on a Monday, either.
Columbus Day is October 12, not the 8th.
Sheesh.

Agree with the OP. The Prius driving little weenie boys like to show off their self hatred on such days and it makes me want to pimp slap them and play their girlfriend's Nintendo.

They are an example of what happens when communists try to compete with capitilisim. It left them hundreds of years behind the rest of the world and survival of the fittest, they didn't make it.
Also, if they were so great and prosperous, they why haven't their reservations become beacons of wealth and prosperity? I mean, nobody liked the jews so we put them on a reservation we call Isreal right in the middle where people hated them the most and they aren't doing half bad.
I will say that to a native American celebrating Columbus Day would be like celebrating Hitler's birthday to a Hebrew.

The Israelis have a rich best friend. No one really cares about the American Indian. I do kinda find it funny when people go into the indian casinos and loose their savings and house.

That is the crux of it unfortunately, white guilt. It's all the white guiltiest people I know that this kind of crap is coming from. I like to tell them to do some serious research into where every holiday we have comes from and tell me if they feel like they want to celebrate any of them when they're through. ("Santa Claus only gave presents to the good children, not just everyone that participated. What kind of non-liberal garbage is that?") I think that at some point somebody did exactly that and that's where Kwanzaa came from.

Watched on the news this morning that there is an idea to rename the holiday to 'Explorers Day' to honor all past and future explorers. And it is intended to also encompass future space exploration.

Yep. I'm actually enjoying the paid day off today being as I'm on a government contract.
but frankly scarlet, its a complete waste. WTF is COLUMBUS day a paid holiday? Really! Its an excuse for car and mattress sales.
Its not like the country is chomping at the bit to go to a Columbus day rally.
Still, I am going to have ravioli with sausage in red sauce tonight.

A lot of Italians I know take this day very seriously. After years of being portrayed as organ grinders and mafiosos, I say let them have the day. They've made many great contributions to our nation and our world.
