Do you actually read the Bible? God sent Satan (In this book he's the prosecutor... not the oppressor) to test Job's faith. This was not the prince of darkness and Lord of the Pit. This was one of God's council. Like I said... "The Devil" was invented much later.

As a Christian I was taught to look at Job as a lesson to not question God. Even if things in my life were bad, who was I to question the will of the all mighty. But if you really read Job you see God doesn't care at all about people. We're just his play things. He'll grind up a devout man just to prove a point. And this all knowing God was actually kinda shown up by Satan. Satan WAS able to break Job.

And what does it even mean to say "Did Rome Happen?" That's like asking did New York happen? What does that mean?

Rome happened after Job.

Job 19:24 mentions an "iron pen". Iron did not come into common use in the ancient Near East until the 12th century B.C. (according to a footnote in my KJV Bible). It is believed that the unknown Israelite author of the Book of Job lived sometime between the reign of Solomon (circa 1000 B.C.) and the exile (began around 605 B.C.). The subject of the book, the man Job, seems to have been a non-Israelite sage (Job 1:1 says he was "a man in the land of Uz...who feared God and eschewed evil"). He seems to have lived between 2000 and 1000 B.C., likely late in that millennium, due to the iron pen reference.

Rome started rising from being just an Italian hill town around 500 B.C., to become the (known) world power. Herod, heir to the Judean royal line of the Idumaean Antipater, became a Roman citizen in 47 B.C. He was nominated to be king of Judea by the Roman, Marcus Antonius, in 40 B.C., but was unable to take power until Roman troops drove a Parthian invasion force out of Jerusalem. He was King of Judea from 37 B.C. onwards. He was brutal (he had a highly effective secret police), but also a subtle diplomat, keeping his subjects quiet and his Roman allies satisfied. He was also a builder -he restored the Temple in Jerusalem and created several new cities (I got this information from a history book).

God speaks to Satan as one of his own in Job. Not only that he grants Satan permission to act against Job. Satan is clearly the servant of God in Job. When does the "Devil" ask for permission for anything? The Devil works against God, always trying to undermine his plan. Satan was one of God's prosecutors. His purpose was to test the faith of men at God's will.

LOL, you say that as if you admit it's a better source of information than the Bible.

Sounds just like a liar who has neither shame nor any other alternative but to change the subject and hope nobody notices.

Kind of like you Christians are so fond of going to third world countries and getting other people to abandon the various forms of nonsensical superstitious beliefs they believe in, i.e. their heathen religions, for Christianity.

It's just hard for you to accept when the shoe's on the other foot.

When the atheists have to stop arguing with the intolerant christians, they can take up the battle with the tolerant muslims.

I have no problems with any religion, including atheism, as long as they are peaceful and largely Don't want to hurt others or suppress others. Freedom is cool, but somewhat problematic, deal with it.

Reading the Book of Job. The Adversary isn't a fallen angel, isn't rebelling against God, and doesn't inhabit Hell. All characteristics of the Christian Devil, who later became identified with Satan.

Just like your Bill Clinton didn't inhale and didn't have sex with that woman.

The great adversary can't contend with God hand to hand, so he tries to frustrate God's enterprise by alienating man from God. He, like you libs, accuses God (Satan means "accuser") to try to drive a wedge between God and man.

By the end of the Book of Job, the adversary is silenced and Job regrets his hasty speech. His heavenly friend, God, hears Job's intercessions for his friends, and restores Job's beatitude.

You may think you have good intentions with your anti-Christian rhetoric. But roads paved with good intentions don't always take you where you want to go.

Now I know you don't even have a basic education in the Bible. Satan, in Job, is not the Devil. This is plain and simple. Satan goes before God as one of his servants. God boasts about the greatness of Job and Satan asks if Job would be so devout had God not put such blessings upon him. God unleashes Satan on Job. It's right there in the damn book. God turns Satan loose on one of his beloved creation like an attack dog. And Satan was right. Satan proved God wrong. And only after God bullies Job does Job repent. Then God rewards him for his fear.

You realize this isn't the actual story of the Book of Job at all, don't you?

Actually reading the work now constitutes "anti-Christian rhetoric"?

I doubt that snowbird has read much of the bible. Given his/her critical reading skills, he/she wouldn;t understand if he/she did. He/she only knows what others have told him.
