I admit to having stood back while all the fancy chemistry talk was going on. My education in that field ended the day I learned how to tell Methyl from Ethyl alcohol.

The variation that would run on Johnny Carson was even better. Ray would wait until Carson would address him as MISTER Johnson, then launch his spiel, and conclude with the line "You doesn't have to call me MISTER Johnson!"
Carson clearly loved the shtick, for RJJ was a regular guest.

One of the great classics from a time when it was the world made sense and television was silly.
Is anyone here old enough to remember th "Bicentennial Moments" on the Tonight Show during 1976?
When Ben Franklin brought the Liberty Bell to Paul Revere's shop because his "DingDong had a crack in it" ?
almost as good as Jack Webb's Schtick about Kleptomaniac Claude Cooper who copped the copper clappers.

Carson did a great job of cracking up during skits, and the Claude Cooper skit was a side splitter. One of my favorites.

My all time favorite on Carson was the bit with Ed Ames & the tomahawk throwing....

A bit of TV trivia: the audience reaction to that tomahawk impact was the longest sustained laughter interval in US television history.

The only current late night host who can crack me up is Craig Ferguson.

Geesie could probably do that.
Notice how Carson grabbed Ames by the sleeve to stop him from retrieving the tomahawk.
Ed Ames was actually Jewish, as Carson discovered.

As long as we're tripping down memory lane, this one always makes me laugh:
