Any 45C chrono #'s?

Did some looking around and came up with zip, any of you guys run any SD loads through your 45C's over a chrono? Trying to decide what load I want to run in my new 45C. It's got +P HST's right now but I have only a limited supply of them, got a bunch of standard pressure Ranger T's though. Wondering about velocities out of the shorter barrel.

Polygonal rifling appears to improve velocity from the 3.9" barrel.
The .45 ACP Federal HST +P (P45HST1) averaged 929 FPS.
Speer Gold Dots 200gr +P are averaging 880 FPS.
Winchester 230gr Ranger T (standard velocity, not the +P load,) averaged 886fps.

Those are certainly some impressive numbers for sure! That HST is pretty warm!

So is the Ranger-T series standard pressure! That's not a bad average for the shorter barrel!

I was surprised that the GD came in lower that I would have expected.

Thanks Barth, appreciate the info. Those kind of #'s for the Ranger's make me feel alot better about expansion.

I didn't get a chance to measure velocity, but one of the recovered Ranger T's (RA45T) from my USP 45 Compact expanded to .798"!

Not to shabby from the short barrel and those talon's are sharp as hell!

From the test's I've run on the Ranger T-series and HST, I'd carry either one. I'm leaning toward the HST but I want to test it in gel myself to get a better approximation of what it's like through different barriers first.

I usually not one that's really big on +P ammo in any caliber but I will give credit where credit is due. The HST 230 +P is some nasty stuff!

Through my Sig P220 Combat, I had a 5 shot average of 932 Fps and expansion measured .984"!

I've never seen anything like it!

Pretty darn impressive!

It was surprisingly a soft shooter from the Sig. I must say that this is the only +P load I'd carry after all the ones I've tested in the past. Accuracy was good too. 2" at 50' and right at 3" at 25 yards. In rapid fire, I could keep all rounds in a 4.5" group at 25 yards!

Not too bad for +P ammo!

For a accuracy comparison, the standard pressure version gave me 3.9" groups at 25 yards in rapid fire. There was a little less recoil with the standard pressure version too. However, this is the only +P load that I've fired that there was little difference in felt recoil when compared to standard pressure ammo.

200+P only got 880 fps?? I've shot that in a 4" M&P and it has nasty recoil compared to 230gr. I've never chroned it but surely it was moving quite a bit faster than 230s.

Speer rates it as 1080 fps from a 5" barrel. Hard to believe it loses 200 fps with a 3.9" barrel. 100 fps maybe, but 200?

Don't have a chronograph.
Just do research and record others results.

I stayed after work last night and chronographed a box of Speer 200gr +P Gold Dot hollow points in my 3" Kimber Ultra Carry CDP II and 5" Les Baer Premier II. The range is indoors. Temperature was right around 70 degrees. Chronograph was 12 feet from the muzzle. The lot code on the ammo is 5402-01.

Velocities from 3" Kimber in order of firing:

1. 911 FPS
2. 896 "
3. 965 "
4. 898 "
5. 927 "
6. 1189 "
7. 934 "
8. 896 "
9. 927 "

Those velocities sure do jump around a lot!

What's the lot number on your ammo? The stuff I tested a while back was the same way in .45 ACP.

The 230 and 185 grain was rather consistent but the 200 +P did the same thing for me.

Coincidence? A fluke? Or is this a sign of a potential problem with this ammo?

I'm not jumping to conclusions but this isn't the first time I've seen this with this load.
