There will only be a recession if the Republicans continue to dig their heels in. We have to raise taxes. The question is whose.

Well, since you support Obama, I hope you and the rest who do volunteer first.

Or, would you prefer theft from others first?

It will take both. One dollar of tax increases for ten dollars of spending cuts sounds reasonable to me.

Even if we raise taxes on every income in the country, we don't even begin to come close to fixing the economy. We have to cut spending. Raising taxes won't work.

this country spends a bit over 500 billion a year on national defense/security but over 700 billion a year on welfare (not counting social security or medicare). i see where 200 billion a year should be cut immediately.

What will raising taxes do to prevent a recession or depression?

Anybody who believes that an increase in taxes will be used to balance the budget hasn't been paying attention. It will all go to new spending.

Of course. Actually it won't. Taxation has nothing to do with funding government. Its about social control and power accumulation.

As soon as taxes are raised muscogee and his friends will be wailing about more welfare spending.

Yes and no.

I just came back from Europe (where I grew up) in order to vote.

Let me be sarcastic and cryptic for a second and recall a quote about what the meaning of "is" is, ... and examine what the meaning of "'we" is.

So when you say We are Europe, who is the We?

Texas is the last resort.

At this point we probably need both. We are far past the point of just spending cuts.

~ "Sad Day For America" ~

http://transsylvaniaphoenix.blogspot...r-america.html

~ "I emigrated from my country in Eastern Europe and crossed the Atlantic Ocean to run away from communism.
Last night I came to realize I didn't ran far enough. Communism is about to take over America with the full acceptance of half of the American people.

Maybe the American people need to experience communism themselves in order to realize their mistake. Maybe they need to see how it is when you have food rations, gasoline rations, toilet paper and detergent rations.

Maybe they need to see how living in a country where soap, shampoo, coffee, salami, cigarettes and whiskey are considered luxury items for the use of the upper class only, and where those items (obtained exclusively on the black market) can buy you a place ahead the line when you need a doctor visit for your father, heart medication for your mother or baby formula for your child.

Maybe they need to experience the waiting in line for 16 hours in a front of a grocery store to buy a malnourished chicken, or a bottle of cooking oil, a carton of eggs, or a pound of sugar, or a bottle of cooking propane - and when you're almost in the front of the line to be told they're sold out.

Maybe they need to sleep in their beds fully dressed up and wearing wool hats and gloves because they have no fuel to heat their homes.

Maybe they need to have their kids doing their homework at candle light because the electricity is shut down 22 hours a day out of 24.

Maybe they need to learn how to have their families share the the rationed hot water and have the entire family take their shower during the single hour of the week when the hot water runs. And if possible do their laundry in the same time.

Maybe they need to have their friends writing informative notes on them and have their telephones and homes under surveillance; and have their fathers, brothers or sisters arrested deported or "disappeared" because of a joke they made about the leadership of the ruling Party.

Maybe America needs to experience the communist paradise I experienced in order to wake the `fock` up. I know I did.

That's all I have to say today." ~

YEAH RIGHT. Democrats wont EVER go for that.

I think to appease democrats and get us back from the fiscal cliff House Republicans will have to bend on increasing taxes. I dont like it and I dont agree with it but I simply dont see any other way around it. Refusing to do so will further damage the republican party because if they dont, democrats and the media will point the finger at republicans for the impending doom.

Democrats want to just let the Bush tax cuts for those making over 250k to expire. The solution i see is to get the spending cuts we want and then give them HALF of their tax increase. So if the tax rate would go up by 5% give them 2.5.

Then after we get that done we lock in the rates for 20 years to try and restore some order and confidence.

The days of praying for democrats to fail and look bad are over. Their failure now would be completely devastating later on and the blame would be laid on Republicans by the media. For us, its lose lose with the slim chance and hope that we dont lose our country in the process.

Just my .02

He doesnt mind if HIS taxes are raised 1000%.

You notice he has never claimed to pay any taxes, only a higher "percent than Romney" but wont state what percent he thinks Romney paid.

I will make this statement. Muscogee did not pay pay higher than a 14% total net tax burden like Romney did. And no where the the dollar amount.

An economy that only functions with continuous infusions of QE, is already in serious trouble.

Until Benji takes us off life support, we really can't tell what the real shape of things are.

It depends on how much they raise them, and on who. Bush 1 didn't raise taxes enough to deal with the deficit and things got worse. Clinton raised taxes enough, and cut spending enough to deal with the debe and things got better. Bush 2 cut taxes while going on a spending spree and the economy crashed. Don't give me the, "Clinton/Dodd/Frank did it" party line propaganda. No one but the party believes that.
