P30 full dissasembly / gunsmithing

I just bought a 9mm P30, V3, and I really like it! I have the urge to tinker though, and I can't help but wonder if I could do my own trigger job or trigger module change.

I own the Glock Ptooma guide, have done it all w/ Glocks, and am basically an "un certified" Glock armorer.

Anybody know of an HK equivalent to the Ptooma guide? Or have any thoughts on "doing it yourself" with this pistol?

I've never gone beyond changing from the standard LEM spring to the next lighter. All that involved was knocking out one pin. I don't plan on going any further for awhile. From what I understand most HKs (and Sigs) are pretty difficult to work on.

The P30 definitely looks a more complicated than the Glock. Smaller parts and more of them.

I'm not sure if I'll try this, although there are some some complete disassembly videos out there on YouTube, so others are doing it.

HK calls the trigger variants "modules", which seems to imply some sort of drop in unit. When I inspect the pistol though, I can't imagine how a drop in unit would work. I'm guessing that the LEM module is actually more of a kit, than a "module". Is that correct?

It's not so much like it's a drop in module as it is a collection of parts that form a package to produce a trigger variant when installed together. It's not rocket science but it can be a little like working on a watch. Make sure you have the correct punches, replacement roll-pins, etc. if you are going to tear it all apart.

I too have a P30 but v2 w LEM trigger. There's the light or V1 trigger a lot of folks are doing DIY. I'm having a hard time shooting it like my glocks and debating sending my P30 to Gray Guns. HK Pro forum has great group and info if you haven't already been there.

I just bought a .40 P30 V2 LEM this morning and took it to the range... It was the 1st time I'd ever had my hands on a LEM equipped HK... why did I wait so long! I'm a LEM convert now, and I didn't fully realize the value of your post above until I started researching all the LEM variants.

My 1st step in tinkering will be to install a light Firing Pin Block Spring, thus changing it to a V4, but I have to say I really like the V2 just the way it is.

I think my quest for the perfect appendix carry gun is over. It has a consistent trigger pull every time just like the Glocks I'm used to, no safety to manipulate, and the exposed hammer gives me the peace of mind I need to feel comfortable with it pointed at my junk all day. I'm in love!

I have converted 2 HK's to light LEM, not too difficult until you get to the TRS (trigger return spring) which is a huge PITA.....literally spent hours on one. A person on the HK forum says he changes them in 2 minutes. I must be doing something wrong. Take your time and good luck

Dental pick and very small needle nose pliers will do the trick easily.

I personally find HK pistols very simple in mechanism. Yes, a GLOCK has fewer parts, but it doesn't take a genius to completely strip and re-assemble and HK.

Just got a set of Heinie straight 8's for my P30 LEM. I tried to drift out the factory sights by clamping the slide in my vice (cushioned w/ leather) and tapping w/ hammer and delrin punch but I can't get 'em to budge. I don't want to pound on it too hard for fear of damaging the slide.

Does anyone know if this tool...

The HK parts site lists what appears to be the same device & says "Will also work with the factory sights on the P30 and P30L" ... but then goes on to say..."May not work with all of the many aftermarket sights in the market."

Yes it's all fairly easy...except the TRS spring at first. Especially if you are installing a stronger one. A lighter one isn't bad. After a few times I got the hang of it, but there's still some swearing involved.
