Its the most commonly used illicit drug in the whole country.

For the interim, this is true, but de-schedule it, make it legal, and they'll stop testing for it.

Just like drinking at work, if they think you're impaired, they company could demand a blood draw at a testing center that day, put you on suspension until tests come back and fire you or fire you on the spot for suspicion (in right to work states anyways).

I work for a major defense contractor and have regular interaction with my government customers: I was only tested when I got hired, never had a random screening. I dont smoke and have never gave them a reason to think I did, but if I'm not being tested, I'm sure there are others who are smoking responsibly and not getting tested either.

I have a story from my Navy buddy who know runs a $1m+ revenue IT company with several employees : before he struck out on his own, his VP was on site, checking out his work, and the VP made a subtle comment that only another smoker would get, and they burned up together regularly thereafter.

Companies don't care about what you do in your private life unless you do something to bring it to their attention.

I read a little more on the CO law. It'll go into effect once the vote is certified by the Governor, which will likely be Jan 1. However the Colorado Department of Revenue is not required to have a framework for licensing stores to sell MJ until July 1, and they don't have to start accepting applications for licenses until Oct 1. Localities must also accept applications by Oct 1. Both are required to grant or deny the applications within 90 days. Growers won't be able to grow commercially until they have their licenses in hand, so you can expect another 90 days until the first crop is ready to sell.

So while MJ may be legal (on the state level) as soon as Jan 1, there may not be any stores selling it until as late as April 1, 2014. That's quite a big window that the Federal Justice Department has to sue the state and try to dismantle the law.

Nothing to discuss good luck with your new influcks of criminals! Expect your crime rate to get worse. First come MJ, then cocaine , heronin etc. you attract the drugies in droves! Along with the Mex Cartels and Gangbangers. They may have legalised it but they didn't count on Businesses firing your druggie asses for being stoned on the job did you! No work means they will turn to crime to get the money for MJ. Stupid people get stupid prizes! Just a heads up for you from WA- our Governor has made your Licence plates number one priority for stops here in Idaho. So keep your MJ in WA as we will through your asses in prison if you come here packing weed! Felony for anything over a oz., heavy fines for any lessor amounts So bring your checkbooks if you feel lucky - we have plenty of room for you in our jails!! Have a great MJ day!

PS we also charge for Felony drunk driving here for stoners- that on the first stop ! Blood draw mandatory- so there no getting out of it!

Heavy fines??? As in the cost of a big baggie of weed??? OH NOES!!!

Nobody gives a ****. There's more weed all over the country than you'll ever know. Some places where it's not legal have limited their fines to what amounts to a parking ticket which means it basically makes your joint cost twice as much if you get caught with it. Big deal. I'd say this war is all but won.

Legalize the stuff, tax it, and create industry.....there's tons of folks already set up for business.
You are very correct and the analogy is spot on. The 18th amendment to the Constitution of the United States was passed in 1917 it was an abject failure. Repealed by the 21st amendment in 1933. Much like that time there were many people who were against alcohol consumption as there are today, same could be said for guns lots of folk out there wanting to take away that right. I neither drink alcohol or smoke intoxicants, and don't want to share the road with those that do. But I see it as being the same argument. We jail and fine too many people who are just not a threat to society in the big picture to not legalize it, tax it and see the revenue potential.
