Diving into OMV. A couple questions...

1. Are there any really good step by steps for configuring OMV to play nice with OSx? Haven't found a good single source yet.

and 2. Is it a problem to make changes via CLI instead of using the browser? I found one reference to a mismatch between etc/fstab and config.xml causing issues, but not much else.

And Time Machine is running now. We'll see if it breaks my RAID again or if that was just an Ubuntu problem.

It's just Debian underneath.. so changes via command line should be fine.

Just realized that was kind of an incomplete answer. As far as I know.. OMV should play nice with any OS. If you download/install the 3rd party plugin repository, I believe there's something in there about "filesharing" w/ Apple. (AFP?). Most of the folks I know that use Mac's, just use samba....

Thanks, I'll look into samba. I've sort of got AFP up and running. The GUI wants to do really goofy things with the directory structure, though. I'm leery of just going in and creating the directories II need in the CLI because IImay out them in aa different place than the GuUI looks for them.

Still trying to find aa good how-to. Seems like they're all pretty incomplete.

Well, data is all stored under /media/disk_uuid . I actually usually create my own directories (/media/uuid/music , /media/uuid/movies, etc)

Once you create them, you just add the shares in the "Shared Folder" section of the webUI... when you click to locate the folder, you just choose the folder you created under command line.

Scratch that, I stand corrected... I just realized how to create a directory from the GUI. I always did it from the command line because this wasn't possible in .2, and I'd recently upgraded to .3.

Go to shared folders
Click Add
Name the share, and select a drive for the folder to be started on.
In the Path, type Folder_Name
Set permissions
Click Ok and it should "add" no problem.

Click the image to open in full size.

Then I ssh'd my server to make sure the directory was created:

Code:
root@openmediavault:~# cd /media/4d1dcbc8-5cf7-4bbf-8493-1ef07bcf6cee/
root@openmediavault:/media/4d1dcbc8-5cf7-4bbf-8493-1ef07bcf6cee# ls
Data Home Movies Music Test Torrents
root@openmediavault:/media/4d1dcbc8-5cf7-4bbf-8493-1ef07bcf6cee#
