Springfield Loaded

I'm thinking about buying my first 1911.I want a 5" stainless and would like to be under $1,000.00 if I can find one in that price range that will make me happy. The S.A. Loaded is one of the front runners,it already has the ambidextrous safety, wich would be nice since I'm a lefty.I'm not big on mods but you never know, would this be an ok platform to start with?As long as it shoots good,I wouldn't want to do much.Is there any real reason you wouldn't want one?I've looked a Ruger SR1911 and it looked ok but I didn't think it looked as good as the S.A. Loaded. Is there any 5" stainless under a $1,000.00 that would be better? Thanks!

Colt makes an all SS XSE model. Based on what I paid for my Combat Elite, it should certainly come in at under a grand. No ambi safety, though.

I have a Loaded in 9mm that has been very fun to play with. I've only shot my Ruger about three times but for less than $700 bucks it would be very hard to beat.

This am there was a Springfield Mil-Spec that has been worked on by SACS on 1911addicts.com. It's beautiful and in your price range. If it were stainless I would buy it.

I'd take the Ruger over the Loaded any day, especially for the price.

Any reason you need stainless?

Thanks,Colt is on my list but bac1023 (which seems to know his stuff) didn't give it the best review on his buyer guide,so I lowered it in the standings.I will take a look if I can find one.

I just like the looks of the stainless, this gun will be mostly just for the fun of it.So you would take the Ruger over the Loaded even if they was the same price? What do you like about the Ruger over the Loaded? What do you not like about the Loaded? Thanks!

I was never really impressed with the fitting of the Loaded for the money, but many feel differently.

I'm not real big on stainless guns to begin with, but I prefer the looks of the Ruger as well.

I'm not a huge Colt 1911 fan as compared to some others, but would take an XSE over a Loaded.

I love my Loaded, has been flawless since day 1 as well.

If you find a good deal then go for it.

I bought an XSE Lightweight Commander late last year for $925. My XSE and the other XSEs I've seen do come with the ambi safety.

I wouldn't say the Ruger is overly tight either. The Loaded models just never did it for me for whatever reason. I just prefer other 1911s in the same price range or even a little less.

I bought a stainless Loaded after I saw one in my favorite shop.
I wasn't looking for it, but it was for a really good price and so I thought why not check it out.
I've heard the negatives and the comparisons so I really didn't expect much.
I have other Springfield 1911's and everyone of them is an excellent gun.
I don't know if I just found a good one or not but it was the tightest fit gun (1911) that I've ever had and it was just a well made nice looking gun.
I bought it and I really liked it after I shot it.
Great shooter.
Now my advice is to look at 1911's in a few gun stores and then decide what you want.
The Loadeds have some nice features but so do other guns.
Shop around and then decide what you want.

I have two loaded pistols that I don't really care for. It's small things really. Like a walking link pin and rear sight on the stainless model, and the parked gun choking on lead wad-cutters. I don't like the grip safety on either and that is really what keeps me from shooting them.

Though I really don't care enough to even sell them.
I probably wouldn't buy them again though.

I do have a stainless GI that I love though.
I'd be more inclined to look for a Colt or perhaps save a few more bucks and get a Dan Wesson.

Yep, sorry for the bad intel! They do, indeed, have ambi safeties.
