Mayan calendar update
It Dec 03 2012
The US reports Syria is moving chemical weapons. Hillary said using chemical weapons is a RED LINE for the US. She would not elaborate on that. Now the UN has called for all non-essential personnel to leave Syria.
What do you doomsday sayers have to say?

Forget what's happening here on Earth, that's small stuff compared to what's about to happen in space.
The Earth's magnetic field is shifting, sun storms are increasing and the planets will all line up on 21 Dec, causing a yet unknown effect on the Earth.
This is no Y2K type stuff, this is serious.
The Earth is about to experience cosmic forces that could be life ending events for humans, plants and animals.

I can make peace with the fact that the Mayans themselves didn't believe the end of the long count to be the end of the world. I'll take peace in the fact that planetary alignments happen often and have no ill effects on the planet.
The only thing I'm worried about are nut cases (I'm not calling you a nut case, just to be clear) turning this into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

JB, I hope you're right in one sense, but fear you might be not quite so right in another.
Myself, I've never had much use for the Mayan Calendar. It's got no photos of cute dogs or playful kittens, and truth be told, I can't tell if it's Tuesday or Saturday or March when I look at it.

I see the calendar as a new beginning rather than a cataclysmic end.
JB, It will happen or it will not. You seem to have come to peace with an ending. Why not relax and enjoy the time whats left if you feel the end is near.
The self fulfilling prophesy thing is interesting. At least we wont have to wait long to see.

I wonder how many hipsters are finding chicks into the Mayan Calendar and are scamming them for sex as the 21st approaches?

Are there seriously grown adults, who can read and write and use computers, who worry that the world will end because the Mayan calendar ends?
If the Mayans were that good at predicting the end, how come they didn't last to the end of their calendar?
JBnTX, I thought you were on the "religious right" - when did you start believing in the Mayan's religion? If they knew when the word was going to end, shouldn't you be going to Mayan church? I would think the religion that had the answer to that question would be the "one true" one.
