Hello All:

Looking to build a fun range toy/steel shooting gun. Kimber
makes the Stainless Target II in 9mm, 10mm, 38 Super and
45ACP.

Several thousand rounds of 9mm brass cause me to lean
towards the 9mm version, but the 38 Super sort of nags at
me.

Anybody here have one, or both, of these guns and can
share their advice?

My 1911 stable consists of a Colt Series 80 Gold Cup and a
single-stack Caspian pin gun, both in 45ACP. Hmm, maybe I
could mod the Caspian....

The entry level Kimbers are good guns for the money.

I recently sold a kimber stainless TLE II. Beautiful gun, but after 2,000 rounds it still would not run properly. Dble feeds and rounds getting hung up on the feed ramp. Changed springs, ammo and bought new mags, and problems remained. Called Kimber and sent it back to yonkers, but the problems remained. My experience is only 1 out of the tens of thousands that are sold, so take it with a grain of salt.

I have a .45acp, and 10MM, in the Target Model. Cannot imagine, for the money, there being a better value.

As far as getting a Target Model in 9mm, I've never owned a 1911 in 9mm, and pretty sure I never will. Also confident I won't own a Dessert Eagle in 9mm either!

I've owned four Target IIs in calibers 9MM and .38 Super. I have had excellent luck with all four. All were reliable with any ammo I fed them, to include ball, hollow points, flat points, Nato, +P, 9MM+P+, reloads, etc. Nothing broke on any of them, except, very recently the rear of a factory 9MM magazine split where it was welded. I doubted it was in warranty as I've had this particular gun for about five years, IIRC. To be honest, I don't recall what Kimber's warranty is as I've never had to contact them before with any issues. I decided to call Kimber anyway. They replaced the magazine, no questions asked, other than where to send the new magazine. My experience with Kimber causes me to believe the Target IIs are good quality guns, well worth the asking price. My remaining, mildly modified, 9MM Target II goes with me to the range every time. It just always works...

I have one, too. I bought mine used and it has a Doug Koenig hammer and sear in it. It works 100%; it's a blast.

Mine's been a tad modified too.







These were taken before the slide stop was flush cut and the HP cuts were done. It was fitted with a Kart .38 Super barrel and the 9mm barrel was flush crowned, but has never seemed to find it's way back in it yet. Also had Chuck install his white ball in the front sight for faster target aquisition.

I have one in 10mm it has been a great gun.

I have been very happy with a lightly modded colt gov model in 9mm. I can't see the point of a 38 super with brass and ammo much less common and more costly and it just adds 150fps velocity to similar bullet weights- not enough to matter IMO.
Mine has been magazine sensitive - running great with all bullet styles with metalform mags but choking big time with checkmates

I have a Custom Stainless Target II in 45, I have owned it since new and have put thousands of reloads through it and it has never malfunctioned.

I think it was money well spent.

we have two plus one of the US Shooting Team versions. I bought the first two for my wife to use for USPSA limited when she was having some hand issues (carpel and a cooking accident that involved damage from a knife through her hand while in chef school). My 14 year old has shot them a great deal as well. really good guns for the money

I had a slightly modified Target II in 9mm. Never had a problem with it


I now have a Custom II in 9mm. I prefer the fixed sights .


It's a little more more "modified" than the Target II
