Oh, no! Another 10/22.
Well, I done did it now. Was killing some time at the LGS, and I'll be darned if they didn't have the most beautiful 10/22 Sporter there with a stainless barrel.
It's got a 22" barrel, so it's longer than the standard carbine, has checkering and swivels for a strap/sling. It's birch, not walnut, but still really nice. I was smitten.
I guess you can never have too many 10/22's.

Yep, they are discontinued and very rare in new condition. Seems like a local Walmart had one recently they found, misplaced in the warehouse. Guy on the local gun board got it for a little under retail, about $200 OTD, no box, or mag.
I would love to find one around here.
Like all 1022's that are great guns. (I have two already)

Be nice to have a NIB discontinued model, but mine appears to be a current model. It is listed in Ruger's website under distributor exclusives.

Man that sounds nice, I can't wait to get a 10/22 of my own. It will probably be my first rifle, if I can't find a cheap Mosin.

10/22 Owners!
How is the stripping down and cleaning on the 10/22? Will a Bore snake suffice or do you need to breakdown each clean? I'll check Youtube to see if they have any instruction.

You don't ever "have to" clean a 22. However, if you were taught by your dad or grandpa or drill instructor to clean, clean, clean, then yes, do it. Read the instructions manual and watch Rugers youtube videos on it.
The only tricky part is retracting the recoil spring and holding it to get the bolt back in in.
A bore snake is great for the 10 22. Keeps from having to worry about damaging the crown on your barrel.

Bocephus, does it get a little nippy in your neck of the woods? A lot of comforters there...
And, the only 10-22 I ever bought was donated for a raffle for the Pacific International Trapshooting Association last year. The winner called me personally to thank me. Now, I guess I have to get one for myself. But, I know what I'll do...custom barrel, trigger, etc. etc. etc... I just can't help myself. I have to trick out everything!

I just got an all weather one yesterday, hate the stock, and I have and extra beech one around somewhere, I will have to see which one shoots best on it.
I am only missing the that one and the race gun (that I will probably build from parts).

Timely thread for me, just picked one up for my boys Christmas today.
Just curious, clean/maintain it like an AR, or an AK?

I clean my 22s by using an old nylon toothbrush and a little Hoppes #9 on the bolt face and breech face. Then I squirt a little Hoppes into the chamber with an eye dropper and let it sit a few minutes.
After those few minutes, I run a Bore Snake from the chamber thru to the end of the barrel a few times. HOWEVER, when I bought the new Bore Snakes I used a sharp razor blade to cut out the wire brush (and then took it to a shoe repair shop to be resewn) so as not to dammage the chamber and/or barrel.
At least once a season, or every 1000 rounds (approx.) I remove the bolt from the rifles and clean the firing pin, extractor, etc. but do not change the Bore Snake routine but I do scrub the chamber a few times with a brush.
For .22 handguns, the procedure is the same but I take out the bolts a bit more frequently than the rifles.

Breaking em down ain't too bad. Here is my custom. Definitely look at getting a trigger done. And break down is easy and needed.
