Good definition of Democracy

a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

....That is all.

We were "supposed" to not have to worry about that, because we're a "Republic", not a Democracy. But when two of the three branches of government shirk their duty to uphold the Constitution, well, we get what we have now. The Executive branch doing all of the executing.

The republic ended at about the time the seventeenth amendment was enacted. It's a downward spiral from here.

Really, every amendment after the 10th has been a steeper slope down.

The success of our system depended on an informed, literate and educated electorate.
