Remington R1 good first 1911?
Would a Remington R1 be a good first 1911? I would like a 1911 that is in the $600-800 range, preferably American made, and kinda traditional looking. A Ruger SR1911 looks like it would fit the bill, but I have yet to actually see one in a store around here. I would like to hold it before buying. R1's are fairly common in the stores we have here.

I would get the enhanced stainless.
Edit, I think only the R1 comes in stainless.
The enhanced model looks cool. For carry, I prefer stainless.

If being Made In America is a requirement, I applaude your way of thinking, but you should know thr R1 has a cast frame that is made in the Phillipines. The Ruger also having a cast frame which Ruger has pretty much perfected the process is 100% made in America.

Remington claims the R1 is 100% made in house by Remington. Never heard anything about the frame being made in the Phillipines. Maybe I am misinformed.
Just looked at their website. Under R1 it says "made in our manufacturing facility in Ilion, NY"

I don't know the R1 story, but plenty of manufacturers/custom shops play with words so that it sounds like their guns are either 100% in house or 100% made in America. I guess it's all depends on the definition of "is" is.

I honestly have never understood the market niche that justifies the production and sale of the Remington.
You can get a great Springfield with lifetime warranty and the best customer service in the industry for same/less than the Cerubrus gun.
Why support vulture venture capitalism?
Get a Springfield, or a Ruger, or spend a few more bucks and get a Colt's. They are all great guns that are time tested (except the Rooooger).

Maybe assembled here but it's stamped right on the frame.

Guess you are referring to the ERPC on the frame. Just for the heck of it I looked for that as far as I could go:
3-15-2011 Company registered by RA arms 870 Remington dr. Madison, N.C.

it's funny how people nitpick about everything. E-RPC is Remington. If it was "Made" elsewhere it would most likely have the place of origin. If the frame rails aren't cut, it's still not considered a firearm, since you can't put a slide on it. Such is the case with Springfield's, the "N" marked guns have the frame rails cut by IMBEL, while the "NM" marked have the rails cut in Illinois. Both frames are forged in the same place.
If the above bothers you, then some of the "semi-custom" brands use frames from Korea.
Lastly the "Made in America" isn't what it used to be, it's a global economy, so much that American cars aren't really 100% American made. The most "American made" cars out there is a Toyota Camry, with 4 of the top 5 being Japanese cars.
