Man, you need to read the forum rules on name calling and provocation.
7 year olds around the world are horrified to be compared to the left.
Also voted, not that it will matter. If people overwhemingly voted it as an assault weapon - the poll would have been all over the news. Since the liberal trash didn't get what he wanted - it will be silenced. Same as all the other news they report.
Reminds me of something I heard on a mainstream news the other day about Citizen Journalist (dotCom) - I'm not sure who it was but they were commenting, I believe with Hannity, about how internet journalists, bloggers, and just regular folks spreading word with use of the Internet has brought out the lies the media has perpetuated as truths.
When this person (again, sorry, didn't catch or don't remember his name) was asked about why Journalists these days don't have the ethics they once did - he replied that they never did, they always pushed their agenda -- there just wasn't anyone with the ability to counter them and bring the truth out until the Internet was born. Back then, if you knew the media or rag was peddling lies -- your only real recourse was another media outlet or to write the editor and complain. Since they're all on the same side - it more or less made no real difference.
EDIT: Wasn't Hannity - it was Stossel. I like that guys work. Probably because he's a libertarian.

I voted "No." though it's not exactly true. The bushy AR-15 absolutely fits the definition of "assault weapon" put forth by our legislators.
A better question would be is "assault weapon" as currently defined a useful tool for classifying firearms that are specifically more dangerous than others, or simply a term chosen for its scary-soundiness with an arbitrary definition based on scary-lookiness.
Like many other things, it's nothing more than our legislators making a half-assed attempt to make the public feel like something is being done about a problem that they have no useful or effective suggestions for. I guess when it's so easy to show pictures of scary-looking guns and misuse words to draw a line between two things, there's no push to take a look at what will address the roots of these people's problems.

It asked for an opinion - Do you consider the Bushmaster .223 an assault weapon?
I believe assault weapon is a fictional term used in Newspeak to support a political agenda - I don't consider any firearm an assault weapon.
I am not obligated to agree with my legislators' opinions on word definitions, especially of terms they invented for a political purpose. Whether I disagree that the bushmaster fits the legislated definition of "assault weapon" or whether I disagree that such a thing exists, the answer is still clearly no. The only way of answering "yes" would be if I agree with both the validity of the term "assault weapon" AND that the Bushmaster fits it.
If it asked, does the Bushmaster .223 match the definition of "assault weapon" set out in __________ (one of many various gun coontrol laws)" the answer might be different.

The term assault weapon comes from the German term Sturmgewehr, the first one was the Stgw 44. It is the designation for a select fire weapon that does not fire a major battle rifle round. The StGw44 was an 8x33, compared to the standard 8x57IS.
The AK47 was patterned after it and started the trend.

Point out to him that there is no "recent accumulation of mass murders with firearms" - not even really much of a bump. His perception is being shaped by what, and how often, the press reports it - reality hasn't changed, just what he thinks reality is, outside hius direct experience.

No, the term "assault rifle" which actual shooters use, comes from the Sturmgewehr 44, which actually means "storm rifle" but after the Germans invented the concept, english-speakers used "assault" in place of "storm." It is usually abbreviated STG or StG.
"Assault weapon" comes from a 1988 anti-gun book called "Assault Weapons and Accessories in America".

In the German speaking part of the world, it is abbreviated as StGw. Das kannst du mir schon glauben.

We agree. And I suppose you're right. I believe that it is an assault weapon as they have defined it, but since I believe the term to be arbitrary, I cannot say that I consider anything an "assault weapon". That was the question, after all, as you've reminded me.
Brain fart.

I've never Assaulted anything with a weapon...therefore the term Assault Rifle/Weapon doesn't exsist to me
