It was an insider's joke for long time GlockTalkers. Somebody complained about how expensive Les Baers were and they came in a cardboard box. The thread lasted several hundred postings.

I busted the cherry on that mutha. I had to bust the cherry in on four other guns too and only had an hour to do it in, so everything was quick and dirty. There were a total of four cylinders shot through the SAA and that was it. Two groups at the bullseye target and the other two groups were at a silhouette.

The smallish sight is actually pretty visible, the only problem is that the rear notch is really wide so the front sight really dances around. The trigger is crisp and supersensitive. Zero slack at all and that's evident in the flyer of the second shot group. I think that once I get used to the handling of the gun, she'd be a tack driver.

I know now why purists prefer the Colt SAA over the Ruger Vaquero (which I have since 1995). The Vaquero may be a mechanically stout beast, but it also handles like a beast while the SAA just sits in your hand and points like it's your own finger. Imagine riding a beach cruiser versus a road bike. Or riding a Harley versus a sport bike. Or driving a mini-van versus a two-doors coupe. The Vaquero just felt like a brick but the Colt is an extension of your arm.

The other Ruger single action that I have is a .45 Convertible. An extremely heavy and ungainly (compared to the Colt) beast that I currently shoot with. Interestingly enough, the Colt though much lighter has less felt recoil. If you don't grip that Ruger just right, even the low recoil of the .45ACP would rap the trigger guard against your middle finger's knuckle. Not so with the SAA.

Anyway, after blasting this mamajama, I called up my favorite gun shop and have them put a lookout for a 4-3/4" or 5.5" nickel plated .357 Magnum SAA (so that I can shoot .38 Special in). It's that nice. You don't know until you shoot these things, and everything else are pretty much badly copied clones or knockoffs.

I definitely understand the allure now.
