Made it on over there today and asked about the 15rd. AR-15 .223 mags. Ron (my guy) told me they might be getting one more shipment in (80 pieces). He also told me that the company making these 15rd. mags is going to stop producing them and is going to make standard capacity GI mags only. Either way, he's going to call me if any come in. I'll PM you if I get a phone call.

Hey Gents,
I'm looking to get ammo in bulk 9mm and .40 but every store in NJ is pretty much out of stock of all ammo. Where are you Jersey guys buying from? Anyone here make there own? The range has ammo but the prices are just crazy 26 to 30 a box.

Colt's can safely fire 5.56.

I think some older Colts did come with true .223 chambers.
If that is the case, 5.56 isn't likely to destroy the gun, but it can lead to accelerated wear, popped primers, and stuck cases. If there's a part on the verge of failure, however, it can cause serious damage to the rifle.
Double check the markings on the barrel, including under the handguards. If you still can't find a caliber marking, try contacting Colt with the model and serial number, they may be able to help.
That said, if the barrel only has "M" and "12" (Are you sure that M isn't MP or MPI?), you may be looking at a Colt lower with a different upper.

That's not where Colt typically marks their barrels. Any chance you can get a clear photo of it and post it here?
I get the feeling you either have a Colt where the barrel was replaced, or the entire upper isn't Colt at all.

Upload it to a website like ImageShack, PhotoBucket, etc. and then post it here.
For example...
If you click "Quote" under this post, you can then see how I posted the image. Simply use image tags ( [IMG] and [/IMG] ) around the URL of the photo.

Ok, that's definitely an unusual setup to me.
Thoughts: What's with the two 'bumps' on the barrel inside the A-Frame?
Those definitely don't look like typical Colt markings on the barrel.
The carbine stock just looks really out of place.
I'm not sure that the upper is original to the lower - the receiver MIGHT be (coloring looks off) but I don't think the barrel is. I'm by no means well versed on Colt's history with ARs, though, so I could be wrong.

So just so I have a better peace of mind about shooting 5.56 ...can I get just a barrel or do I have to get the hole up ??? I have showed this gun to bunch of ppl no one can tell me nothing about the barrel a few said the upper is stock but a few to said it might not be so I have no idea ... But it does shoot very very well at 218 yards holding a group about the size of base ball but I don't have a scope just tactical green dot site

Replacing the barrel would do it, but it requires more tools and effort than just swapping uppers in most cases. Your Colt might have the funky takedown pins that would make swapping uppers difficult.
A baseball sized group at 200+ yards with a cheap ass dot sight is nothing to complain about.

The front screw is typical of many older Colt rifles. In some cases, that screw is slightly offset from a normal takedown pin, and requires a special adapter to install a standard upper.
