SW1911PD question

I have a Smith and Wesson 1911PD and I have heard that if you own a smith thats not the "E" series that it is garbage. My question is what is wrong with the one I have? I haven't shot it a whole lot but it functions fine and never had any failure.

I love the S&W 1911 PD, its one of my favorite production 1911's. What are they saying is wrong with it.

as an e series owner, let me try to answer.

allegedly, they would do the infamous btf malfunction...this was remedied by an extractor adjustment, which is much harder to do than *****ing about the issue.

they also are not colts. anything that isn't a colt can't be any good. just ask owners of les baer, nighthawks, dan wesson, etc....those are a lesser brand than colt, as any colt owner will gladly espouse.

otherwise, i'm not a huge fan of rails. you may very well be.

basically, there is a lot of s&w 1911 hate going on. Your pistol works well? you like it? it never acted up on you? guess the hater just gotta hate.

The E series is an upgrade but that doesn't make the 1911 PD garbage. Are they complaining about the scandium vs steel because there is a scandium E series model. I remember when the 1911 PD came out people complained about that.

I have never heard why just that it has to be an e series to be a "serious" 1911. I will say one thing, it is not quite as smooth when racking or shooting as my kimber but i dont attribute that to lesser quality in terms of reliability.

The only thing i dont like about it is the mag extension so i carry my kimber mag in it and the s&w's as back up.

Nothing wrong with S&W 1911s. I have two non-E Series, a S&W Gunsite Commander and a Pro Series Subcompact 1911 by Lew Horton. Both have been outstanding performers.

If you take a glance at the Smith section on the 1911forum you'll find quite a few posts from people with problems with their new E Series 1911s. Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the E Series at all. But their fancy new cosmetics have nothing on their "older" style 1911s.

Own your classic S&W 1911 with pride.

All the S&W 1911's are fully made in the good old USA so how can any of them be junk.? I love mine never any problems with it.?

I don't know where you heard that crap, but its BS.

I do like the E series for the fact that they don't have the firing pin safety. That being said, Smith's top of the line 1911s are not the E series.

Its simply because the E series models do not have the firing pin safety. Many 1911 fanatics, like me, prefer 1911s that don't have the needless safety. However, it doesn't ruin the gun. I have plenty of 1911s with and without firing pin safeties.

Its certainly no less quality than the Kimber OR the E series.

Well, that's certainly true of S&W 1911s.

However, there ae plenty of handguns (not 1911s) built in the States that are junk.

I have a Smith 1911 with the laser on it and it is a very nice 1911. I see nothing wrong with it and it works nicely. I guess that the Smith "haters" have that "E" in their sights.

There are mechanical improvements in the E series that "upgrade" it over the previous, that are not immediately obvious to the naked eye, or the finger.

Does this make yours junk?...you decide. When it comes to 1911's, everyone has a strong opinion.

If given a choice between 2 SW1911 guns and one had the e-series upgrades and the other did not, without an increase in price, which would you buy?
