Lateral Movement of Barrel Hood?
I have a Springfield 1911. It has a little over 3,000 rounds through it. I recently noticed that when I push laterally on the barrel hood from the ejection port area when in locked position, there is some movement from right to left (and then I can push it back to the right). I perceive very little, if any, up and down movement when pressing down on the barrel hood.
Is this a concern? Should I contact Springfield?

I have never Ransom rested it. However, I don't shoot it that well. I do get better groups out of my Glock 17; but, that may be because I shoot Glocks much more often, and I am not so used to the 1911. So it may be operator error. Bottom line is that I don't know what kind of groups the pistol will shoot.
I did check out 2 brand new RIA 1911s yesterday and found those to have no play at all in the barrel hood area. Thanks.

UPDATE: I spoke with a very nice person at Springfield this morning. Explained what was going on. She immediately offered to have the pistol returned under warranty. Springfield is paying for the shipping both ways.
That is what I call EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Makes me want to go out and buy another Springfield.

I don't know that it "had" to go back. I think that they were just making sure that I am a happy customer. Another company may have just said "its within spec", and be done with it. I guess this is the reason Springfield has such a great reputation for customer service.

Update:
It came back from Springfield in a little over a week with a new 1 piece barrel (used to have a 2 piece barrel), a new bushing, new recoil spring, new extractor and they polished the feed ramp, all at no charge. The Springer is now incredibly accurate. I am so impressed with Springfield that if I could get my hands on a new Ultra Compact, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
