Mine has the Apex Tactical hard sear and ultimate striker block as well as Meprolight Tru Dot night sights. I'm very happy with its performance and relaibility.

No, just wondering if you are speaking from personal experience or not. I am seriously considering both, including upcoming 9mm xds. Trying to determine if you have hands on experience, or are a Ford guy who thinks every Chevy is a POS. (no offense)

Atlanta, I had both. Kept the Shield. The XDs is a fine weapon, but the Shield just seemed to be the right balance between range, concealed carry, and capacity. For me.

Love the shield 9. Out of all my carry guns (Glock 19 gen3, Kahr PM9, HK P2000SK .40 LEM, Shield 9), I shoot it the most accurately.

Very natural to shoot, the only slight negative in my mind is the manual safety, which slightly digs into the web of my hand during shooting.

Best carry option I have, for the size, weight and caliber. It conceals very well with the flush fit mag. I can get more pinky on it than with a G26. Accuracy isn't the greatest, 3-4" for me at 10 yards (Federal 124gr HST), but that is to be expected. Overall a clear winner.

My friend has a XDS and I have a Shield. We put them right next to each other and they are virtually identical. The XDS is just about as close to a Glock as you can get. But, I like my Shield w/ the Apex parts better. The Shield has a lot more sight and other options as well.

That being said, the XDS 9 will be coming home w/ me very likely. Based on their specs, it will have one more round in the extended mag than the Shield. I like the grip safety more than the small safety. However, I haven't got a chance to shoot the XDS yet, so I don't know if it will have any engagement problems. I had a full size XDM and the grip safety had zero issues.

I like my 9mm Shield with one exception: the safety lever is difficult to operate. If it were full off, Ok, but many times I have to actually look at the lever to know in what position it is. I prefer my thumb to do that, not my eyes. OTherwise a fine carry pistol. Smooth and accurate.

The Shield in .40 that I looked at recently gave me the impression that the safety is difficult to operate.

I was drawn to the Shield by positive performance reports and the manual safety feature. I'm less interested now because the safety lever seems undersized and awkward to engage/disengage.

I'm not too concerned with engaging the safety but I don't want any trouble disengaging it.

I'm sure hand shape/size has something to do with it but my thumb easily disengages the safety.

In fact I like the safety being small so there's less chance of inadvertently moving it ON.

I've been searching for mags (I like a lot of mags for practice) but I haven't found any "in stock".

I just had a thought.
Wouldn't it be nice if by the time I can hold the gun in my right hand, Texas passed "open carry".

Probably won't happen though.

Nice pistol. I never shot one but I did have one in my hands at the local GS. I thought the ergos were good and the overall balance of the gun was good. Having said all those nice things about how I felt about the pistol. I can't see me ever liking it better than the Kahr PM9 that I've been carry on my hip for the last two years. It is a nice pistol though for sure. Congrats

One of my buddies and I were both watching for a Shield to come to one of the local stores, and nothing was showing up. He ended up buying a Kahr PM9 which is nice but the trigger pull is about nine inches.

So I walk into the Trading Post one day couple weeks back, and here's this Shield (9). Never had held nor seen one until then. They had put it in the case like an hour before I walked in. Gave them 395 bucks and walked out with it.

Shot it a couple times now, it's the perfect balance of a small pistol for me, the real small ones I can't even hang on to. Good trigger and I can shoot it well off hand.

I like mine a lot. It is markedly easier to shoot, IMHO, than the Kahr PM9 or P9. The safety is a bad feature, very positive on/off click, but hard to activate. I solved that problem by never using it.

I want an XDs, too, though.
