Ear protection

What ear protection do you guys use? I was thinking of getting these as I wanted electronic ear protection to hear others at the range without having to take on and off my ear protection to hear:

(replace the hxxp with http)
hxxp://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-R-01526-Electronic-Earmuff/dp/B001T7QJ9O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=17V426R0UOLQ0&coliid=I15576243MD3AO

They are Howard Leight Impact Sport Electronic Earmuffs and seem like a good deal and have a good rating. I realize the range is no joke with loud noise and the help yourself ear protection at my range isn't the best. Thanks for replies!

Thanks for the pic and suggestion. But forgot to say that I was leaning toward the electronic type so I can talk with people on the range. I just edited the above with that point. Thanks Barth!

I would not have bought them , but my wife bought me a set of MSA Sordin Supreme pro x . Tell ya what I love them . Worth the investment . My ears are crap from my Air Force years and 30 years of range time . Just wore them out in the woods at the end of deer season . It was like having a hearing aid . I forgot how loud crunching leaves could be in the quiet woods !
It is nice to be able to hear range commands and also being able to talk with the folks and not be yelling at them LOL

Those look nice but expensive for a young guy like me. I'm hoping to spend around +/-$50.

I used Peltor Ultimate 10 for many years. Excellent bang for the buck.

I've had the impacts for about a year and a half. They work good and have held up just fine. Worth the money in my book. I would buy again without reservation.

Forgetting the ease of use of muffs, electronic or not, foam plugs provide greater hearing protection..including the industrial ones sold at big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes.

Worn them all...I use Peltors electronics now..ease of use but always have foam plugs in my range bags.

Best.

have 2 of those howard leight. for sound amplification their great. but for sound suppression theyre ok IF u can get a good seal around your ears. thats their biggest problem. i still wear foam inserts but am still able to hear everything clearly with them thru the foam. great for ipsc and idpa where u need to hear instructions.

Ear muffs are crap, and foam plugs are a pain to use. The SureFire earpro are awesome!

I use a Nacre QuietPro. The filtering and active noise reduction are uncanny. I can hear better than with bare ears, and the unit just "deletes" the gunfire.

The only downsides are the cost of the unit, and the earplugs which need replacement every month or two.

My wife and I both have these. They perform well. If you have large ears though, the cups are not overly large and may not seal well enough.

Best price is at Amazon.

I bought the Peltor Tacticals at WalMart for $60. They're electronic, use AAA batteries, and they work great.

Cool idea, though I couldn't find a price or their NRR. Any insight into these two things?

To the OP: I also have the Howard Leight Impact Sports and they are awesome. Work much better than my dad's Peltor electronic earmuffs. They also have the highest NRR of any electronic earmuff I have seen except for 1 (which cost about $250).

I'm using the same ones. Got them for Christmas and they have been great thus far.

i just use the foam plugs they work great & take up no space in your range case, not to mention that when you loose them or just throw them away your not out any money.
spend your money wisely-- GUNS & AMMO....

If I can find a set of electronic earmuffs or earplugs that can dampen noise the way my regular foam earplugs/earmuff combo, then I'd buy it. My ear has enough ringing as it is from my stupid youth at the range. I am not risking my hearing any more on "convenience". It's double protection all the way.

I found a set for about $25 - 30 at Wally World or Gander Land. Can't remember which, for sure.Attachment 231223

Just gotta replace AAAs once in a while. (sometimes one ear buzzes, so I just turn it down)

Street price on a surplus QuietPro is around $260, but a bag of earbuds will add a bit to that. NRR is 30 dB plus 9 dB of active noise canceling.

The unit is very good at filtering background wind noise and amplifying voice. At a recent match I had to turn the audio off because I could hear two guys whispering crap about me and it was pissing me off.

I have two of these and they are great! I use foam inserts and these over them. I raise the volume all the way up and can hear comfortably everything in the range but have double protection when gunfire goes off.
Just went to the range with my 14 yr old daughter and we both used foam inserts and these over them. We were well protected but could carry on normal conversation.
Highly recommend them.

I love the surefires, I can't stand wearing muffs, especially when shooting a rifle.

With no hearing damage so far that I can tell, I'd like to keep it that way. I've always used dual protection.

1. First, get a few pairs of rubber ear plugs; they last forever and can be washed off in a few seconds unlike foam plugs.
Something like this, although I'd just stop in the hardware section of any store:
http://www.arizonatools.com/hearing-...FWamPAodnB4AIg

2. Then top them off with electronic muffs turned most or all the way up. I'll second the Howard Leight Impact muffs for ~50...I don't shoot a ton, but they've held up over several years so far and are quite slim. The battery compartment is a bit of a pain.
