It think it is good that they are offering to the public. I will still buy LE in 50 rounds, but it kind of softens the statement, if it ever could be used against you, that these are LE only ammunition.

Is this better than the Ranger-T you can get for $30-ish for 50?

federal is taking a play from the Speer gold-dot handbook:
sell the civis' the 20 round boxes at inflated prices, keep the 50-round boxes for LEO's

Again, people need to be reminded that LE is not required to pay excise tax to the Gov't.

I picked up a few 50 round boxes of 9mm 124gr HST from ammoforsale.com last week @ $38 per box. I've haven't been able to get my usual Ranger 124gr +P+ for SGammo for a while now.
Note: in my research on ammoforsale.com I found out that several on line ammo retailers are all owned by the same company. I noticed the product offerings at ammoforsale and luckygunner were always the same, when one sold out, so did the other. Then I found this.

Those 20-round boxes are rip-offs.

Wow... I've got a NICE stash of Federal HST in .40 and .45-ACP... I paid between $17 (govt over-run) to $25 - $28 for 50-rd boxes (regular production).

The 20-round boxes have always been a ripoff compared to the 50-round boxes, but in the current environment where every box of ammo is snapped up in seconds who can blame ATK for finally deciding to do what its Speer subsidiary has been doing for years?

I'll stick to the 50-rd boxes - enough for three G17 magazines.
