simple, free work processor?

I have Word 2013 on my PC laptop but I am looking for a simple word processor. Just something I can use to write a simple note or list without taking time to use Word.

thanks

Open Office. Is free and compatible with Word. just go to: OpenOffice.org and download it.

Openoffice and LibreOffice are both whole office suites, not just simple word processors. For word processing try Abiword. It can read and write Microsoft Word documents and can convert them to PDF.

It's a lot smaller, lighter and faster than the office suites.

Open Office is the suite I used to use before I got regular MS Office. It worked really well, though. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

Google Documents or whatever its called now. Completely web based so there is nothing to download or install on your computer.

I think its called Google Drive now.

Just click on the create button for your options on what you want to create.

I'm using MS Word 97 (yes, that's 1997, 15+ years old). More powerful than Notepad but not bloated like later versions of the Office. And very quick since it was released when Pentium 166 was top of the line.

Wow. Thanks for all the suggestions. I am sure one will work. My wife is much more tech savvy than me. She will help me pick one she likes also.

Sometimes when I am out working I need to write a note and leave it with someone and don't always have internet. I print in the car with an HP 100 Officejet Mobile.
