Political Correctness Gone Mad

If passed, it appears that the bill will prohibit NYPD from using a suspect's age, gender, color or disability to stop and frisk anyone, but would still allow a clothing description.....

Be On the Lookout for a blank, blank, approximately blank years old, but it's wearing a blue shirt!......

So... let me get this straight, racial profiling was illegal (ok, fine) but now criminal profiling is too?

This would just force description transmission over cel instead to avoid being recorded using um, descriptive descriptors that might get officers sued, which will result in even more complaints of, 'the poleece always use their phone in the car why cant I?' Win all around!

This proposed law appears to be related only to the Stop and Frisk program, not the transmission of descriptions over dispatch radio.

Randomly stopping a member of whatever race bases solely on that fact alone is wrong. Describing someone accurately by naming their most defining characteristics (race, gender, age) is not.

Racial profiling is already illegal and you cannot randomly stop somebody because of their physical characteristics without RAS.

The article quotes that this law would prevent the descriptio of 'suspects'. I do not know for certain how the law is worded, but a suspect would be somebody who is suspected of committing an offense or crime and now it appears that using these factors to describe them will be made illegal with this law.

Stop and Frisk is governed by Terry v. Ohio and to do so, you need RAS that the person you are stopping/frisking is armed and dangerous.

If a description comes over as "fat," I'm suing. Fat is a protected class under the ADA.

"All hail to our wonderful leader Obama!"

The article states that the possible ordinance is being considered by the NYC City Council.

I am no Obamaite, but, for God's sake, why does someone always have to bring in Obama hatred in every thread? OBAMA HAS NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO DO WITH THE SUBJECT UNDER DISCUSSION.

You're absolutely right.

As one commenter posted, if passed, crime may revert to the levels during the 80's. Boy, that was a fun time. As they say, you get the Government you deserve. If you get a chance, read some of the comments. The ones posted by current and former NYPD members are spot on.....

Do you even know what it is? It's called a Terry stop. Look it up. I wish people would actually look into things instead of opening their mouths and showing how ignorant they are on a subject.

That doesn't surprise me. NYC does everything it can to help the criminals out, and every thing they can to hinder honest citizens.

Damn, think of how easy jobs will get?

"Sorry ma'am, can't canvass for your suspect. He sounds like a protected class. But you can pick up your copy of the report later this week, that will have all the details of what happened to you... minus that whole description thing. Wouldn't want those criminals to be able to sue us."

Complaining about a perfectly legal practice, which has been upheld by the highest court and going on for decades throughout the country, should be stopped completely.

..But wait, there's more...

http://www.officer.com/news/10978269...n=CPS130622005

Quote:
Lawmakers voted earlier Thursday to create an outside watchdog and make it easier to bring racial profiling claims against the nation's largest police force. Both passed with enough votes to override expected vetoes, marking an inflection point in the public debate and power dynamics that have set the balance between prioritizing safety and protecting civil liberties here.
Here we go...

Quote:
The NYPD has defended the surveillance and stop and frisks as legal, and critics of the new legislation point to another set of statistics: Killings and other serious offenses have fallen 34 percent since 2001, while the number of city residents in jails and prisons has fallen 31 percent.

Bloomberg has said they could tie the department up in lawsuits and complaints, inject courts and an inspector general into tactical decisions and make "proactive policing by police officers extinct in our city."
This is apparently what they voted for....

Quote:
"The unintended consequences, potentially, of these bills is when a human, a man or woman, who has (a) badge will pull their punch and not aggressively pursue a potential perpetrator, and then he or she goes out and commits a crime. That's the fear," Republican Councilman Vincent Ignizio told his colleagues Thursday.
....and hesitate to take action in an appropriate way. This is going to get coppers injured or even killed.
