SC: Richland Co Deputy and his wife killed in motorcycle accident...

Quote:
Deputy, wife die in motorcycle crash
Quote:
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said 45-year-old Derek El Dada and his wife, Leigh El Dada, died after the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a car.

"Today's one of those days that you dread," said a visibly shaken Lott as he delivered the news Thursday morning.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the collision happened on South Carolina 391 near Hutto Island Road.

Troopers say the driver of a northbound 2008 Chevy Malibu ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Lott said El Dada and his wife were out riding with an old high school friend when the accident occurred.
This hits close to home.

Another of their high school classmates is a very, very close friend of ours.

When she posted the link on Facebook, I asked if she went to school with them. She said, "Yes, they were high school sweethearts."

Everyone is in shock.

Please keep all in your prayers and good thoughts...

If the Dadas had kids, they'd be about teens, give or take a few years. Damn, that would be tough.

Prayers to their surviving family.

After one accident and many close calls, this is why I gave up motorcycles.

We lost (hopefully only temporarily) one of the guys on my shift recently, when someone ran a stopsign and hit him in the left side of his motorcycle. He lost his left leg below the knee and is currently awaiting a prosthesis. He hopes to be able to get back on the job.

My sympathy to the families involved.

I am a former EMT. I have been to many MV accidents. It doesn't really matter if you are on a motorcycle, in a SUV or driving a Mack 10 wheel dump. You can be 'got'.

Dreher Class of 1986
Quote:
The Class of '86 has lost several members since we graduated, but on June 19, 2013, we suffered an unbearable tragedy. Derek and Leigh Hayes El Dada were killed when the motorcycle they were riding was hit head-on near Lake Murray, in Saluda County.

Leigh and Derek had been together since our days at Dreher. Theirs was a rare one of high school sweethearts who married after graduation and were still together 27 years later.

They leave behind 2 teenage daughters, 17 and 13. Derek was a sergeant with the Richland County Sheriff's Department, and the RCSD is setting up a fund to help with the the care and well-being of their girls. The planning committee for the Dreher Class of '86 Reunion has decided to donate all leftover money from the reunion to the Sheriff's Department fund...

Derek El Dada was a good guy. He was a Sergeant with Richland County SO. He was respected and well liked by his deputies. It is a huge loss for the department for sure. They are giving his shift some time off to deal with it. I believe he and his wife had two teenage children.

My choice as well back in 1995 when I almost became a hood ornament. Prayers to the two girls and extended family.
