Gun From CA?

Have any of you bought a used gun from someone in CA? I have a buddy that I might buy a gun from that is a deputy in CA. He says that residents there have to register their guns with the state. I know that we can buy and sell guns here with no registration, but what about buying from a person in another state?

There is no handgun registration in CA. So buying one from CA is no big deal.
You will need to have a dealer transfer it just like any other out of state sale.

Are there any websites that explain state to state sales?

Be careful with guns out of CA, they always shoot to the left.

So, do I just have to meet the seller here, in CA, or somewhere in between at a place with an FFL?

Actually, there is handgun registration in California.
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/ab991.php
And in order to register, you have to have one of these:
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/hsc.php
And your pistol has to be on the DOJ approved list. Anything made of zinc, anything that doesn't pass the drop test, and lots of other stuff is on that list. If you ever move to Cali, stock up on Kel-Tecs (which go for $400-$500 in Cali) or other stuff not on the roster.

But to buy a pistol FROM Cali, all you have to do is your standard person-to-FFL-to-you transfer. He will, of course, have to inform DOJ that the pistol is no longer in his possession.

Reminded me of the old "for sale, only use once" cartoon. Revolver with the barrrel where the hammer should be, and vice versa.

I remember reading something about transfers out of California, the DJO is more than happy to transfer a gun out of California but they are a bit more of a pain if you want to move one into California.

You should have no problem buying a gun from someone in California; just treat it like any other gun purchase.
