Upper decision time
Hello, I'm looking to get a 16 inch mid length from either Noveske or BCM, the price is pretty similar for what I'm looking at, the Noveske includes the bolt carrier group, charging handle, and flash hider I want, I know both companies have great reputations and their isn't a bad choice between the two, the Noveske has the double chrome lined barrel though, I don't plan to ever change the muzzle device, should I just get a 14.5 Noveske? if you think I should get a BCM why? thanks

If you're confident you aren't going to want to change the muzzle device or rail then go with the 14.5" Noveske.

That's what I'm leaning towards, the Noveske is a basic upper with standard for-end, I do plan on upgrading to a Centurion C4 cutout rail

I know this, I hear so many good things about BCM, but you don't hear much about Noveske basic uppers, I think I'm going to have to wait to join the BCM club because the Noveske will come in 14.5 with the flash hider I want

To be honest, I would go with a 16" over a 14.5" unless you were getting the upper built exactly the way you wanted it, and you knew for damn sure you were not going to make any changes. Having the ease of pulling the muzzle device in order to change/remove the FSB, barrel and barrel nut, etc. is a huge help.

Hmm, never thought about what happens when I shoot the barrel out, why woul I need to change the barrel nut or FSB? I know the OAL isn't much shorter, is a 14.5 worth any weight savings?

Cannot go wrong with either, but I would choose BCM.
Or you could get a nice PSA upper and have money left for a Aimpoint. IMO, PSA is just as good as BCM for less money.

Why do you prefer BCM? this isn't going to be a precision build but isn't the Noveske slightly more accurate?

If you install a rail that requires a different barrel nut, you're screwed. Same goes if you decide to change to a low-profile gas block later on.
OAL change is negligible with most muzzle devices (Especially when comparing something like an A2X or BC1.5 on a 14.5" to an A2 on a 16"), and the weight savings is about as small.

Both BCM and Noveske use quality parts, and everything is to the correct spec. Either will be tack drivers.

If you are planning to go with the Centurion rail you won't have to remove the fsb or barrel nut. You can just cut off the old delta ring and the Centurion uses the standard barrel nut. As for shooting out the barrel, I wouldn't be too worried about it. The Noveske, I believe, use a FN cold hammer forged barrel with a service life over 20k rounds. If it does get shot out then you would have to replace the muzzle device along with the barrel.

While this is true, I've seen a lot of people that build a pinned 14.5" upper, then have to change rail after a few months because they hated the rail...

I haven't been able to see how the Centurion feels but they have good reviews, if it doesn't work for me I would just throw on a magpul

Is it usually a weight issue or quality issue?

They are both great companies and I would just go with whatever is more economical for you because they are both good to go. IMO I would get the Noveske 14.5"... the 16" is just too long for me esp if you have a muzzle device that you like. I personally run an LMT 14.5" which I put the VLTOR VC-1 on bc it meets min length requirements and resembles the A2. It is DEFINITELY NOT a comp tho hah. Noveske makes one of the most consistent products on the market and are very well respected. Go noveske.

I would agree with the Plank. I have 2 BCM's, which I recommend highly. one a 14.5" and one 16" barrel. I wish that I had not bought the 14.5", and had another 16" instead.
With a 14.5" and a perm. attached extended hider, to make it a legal 16.1", mine is less than 3/4" difference between the
16" barrel and regular hider.
Plus, you are limited on what you can do to customize or change parts with that perm. attached hider.
These are just my opinions, but it does limit you for a very
little difference of barrel length.

Not a big deal changing rails for a 14.5 pinned upper.
Right now you have many choices of two piece rails that don't require removal of FH.
DD omegas FF's in all sizes, DD ez car in both 7" & 9". MI FF and non FF plus a modular 2-piece tubular design in all sizes, Troy 2-piece plus their two new FF"s and Centurion rails in several sizes. Not to mention MOE or standard handguards.
Surely one can satisfy the pinned upper owner.

Just have it built with a DD rail and low pro and you'll never need to change anything.

Some food for thought...
Almost pulled the trigger on a BCM 16" middy upper, but saw this on aim and just bought it:
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...&search=spikes
You can get a Spikes elite 16" middy complete upper with cold hammer forged FN made barrel, nickle boron bcg and moe handguards for $620 shipped right now... Its only $10 more than the standard BCM middy with standard barrel, standard bcg and no handguards...
Yes the Spider logo is a bit silly, but you cant deny the quality Spike offers - as good as BCM plus you get the upgraded barrel and bcg. I would assume they sell out by the end of the week. Justy an awesome awesome deal.
