Good point. i was just reenforcing the historic model that other than from the 03 Springfield to Garand change we have never (in the cartridge era) swapped rifles to keep the same round. The Garand was actually designed for a different round.

The Garand was also a radical change in firearm function over the weapon it replaced.

because of the radical change it gave US troops a significant advantage over other troops they might someday face.
