Burpees are great.
Last year at the civilian military combine I did 29 in 90 seconds.
I actually just now got back from bootcamp class and yes there were many burpees
Go to the site for CMC and there are videos posted

Is the idea you won't want to buy equipment, can't afford it, don't want a gym membership, etc. I just don't get the no equipment route.

Look on Craig's list and you can find an enormous amount of equipment for basically free or next to nothing. A coworker just picked up a $2000 treadmill for $100. The guy said as long as he moves it himself its his.

As for burpees...I might have to add these to my mix.

That's how I equipped my workout room. On Craigslist I got some kettlebells, weight bench, and a heavy duty tower that I use for pullups/chinups, dips, leg raises, and pushups.

The idea is I am under medical orders (due to two aneurisms) to not lift any weight over 40 lbs. Squatting a bar, benching a bar is a joke. So, I am seeking a method of flogging my heart and body that does not require lifting weight.

Hey GM, if 40 pounds is the limit you could get a pretty good workout with a 40 pound kb.

You can't lift over 40 but you can do pushups and pullups? Out of curiosity, would one arm pullups/pushups or planche pushups be ok, or is that straining too much?

I did a burpee mile a couple years ago. It was horrible and I will never do it again.

Believe me, I pointed out to the Doctors that my body weighs a bit more than 40 pounds. Still, their rules are their rules and I shall play by them until such time, if any, I am no longer under their care.

I'll bet.

At this time I am finding pull ups, chins, burpees, pushups, and such are kicking my ass well enough.

I'll bet, back when i could hold a planche i still couldn't do more than a few burpees. Never worked at em though.

When it warms up out kayaking is a heck of a workout too

I installed a Tabata timer app on my phone and did burpees and kettlebell clean and press with two 30 pounders for my workout this morning. The burpees included a plyo pushup in every rep. That was a hell of a workout and I admit I had to turn off the timer and take longer rest breaks after a few minutes of it.
