I picked up a TRP Saturday that I've been wanting for a long time. Don't know if it was a good deal or not at $1499 (and don't care) but it was $200 cheaper than the local LGS, got it at Sportsmans. Had to go to the LGS anyway because they were the only one around that had Wilson magazines.

I've had a S&W 1911 for a long time that I've been very happy with and couldn't see how much better it could get. Well color me WRONG!

I took it to the range and put around 200 rounds through it. The gun functioned flawlessly with the Wilson, Act, Tripp and even the No Name mags. The No Name don't always lock the slide back on the Smith.

One gripe though. Whoever designed this thing around the thought of using a paper clip to remove the guide rod out ought to be clubbed into submission. One other thing, have there been any problems with the ILS on these?

I love everything about the TRP Operator.........expect that fugly rear sight cut. The Cone barrel does take some getting used to don't it for take down.

1) Get yourself a full length guide rod or a
traditional "short" guide rod and replace that stupid two-piece deal. You can thank me later. First thing I did when I got my TRP and it makes field stripping MUCH faster and easier.

2) I've only had my TRP for a few weeks and taken it to the range twice (about 150 rounds total). Haven't had any issues with the ILS and I haven't read of it having problems.

nice pistol for sure. I like the TRP, but haven't had the chance to shoot one. Specifically, in what ways did you find it superior to your S&W?

I haven't shot the S&W in about a month nor both of them side by side yet. But the slide to frame fit is much better. The trigger feels better. The TRP feels a bit heavier over the S&W, I don't know how much weight the rail adds to the gun, but I was able to stay on target much easier. The checkered front strap as aggressive as it is feels great. I believe if your hand was slathered in pig fat you wouldn't lose your grip because of it. It also doesn't have an idiot warning on the frame.

Don't get me wrong, I still dig my Smith and will continue to shoot it plenty often, it's just that Daddy has a new love now. Here's the Smith.

Um he's got a bull barreled gun so he'd have to find closed reverse plug if he wanted to go with a GI setup.

MD357 is correct. There are only two drop in options to replace a FLGR on a bull barrel TRP.

1. Get a proper reverse plug with enclosed end from 10-8 performance for use with GI Rod.

2. Get a Dawson Precision Tooless Guide Rod

amen, hogpauls. i have owned one 1911 without the traditional gi setup. never again. to me, it's not worth the aggravation that attends the takedown process.

those with an extra hand or above-average dexterity may prefer the 'modern' setup. god bless them..... regards-- deguelo
