As was mentioned in another thread (that nobody responded to)....nowhere on this site does it say buying a membership will get rid of the popup ads. In fact, nowhere does it say what the difference is between silver, gold, platinum memberships....other than a little bugger next to your avatar.

Now, if there were some tangible benies....
(let's start with that ******* popup ad...which, if you're accessing the website by a Blackberry takes up 1/3 of the entire screen and is nearly impossible to get rid of, essentially making the website inaccessible from a Blackberry).

Another benifit would be for advanced access to classified ads. Non-paying members would have to wait 24 hours for a new classified add to become unlocked, silver members 12 hours, gold 6, platinum immediate access to new ads.

However....let's just start with actually stipulating what each membership actually entails....or for that matter, what membership in general entails.
(and for the pay-up or shut-up group...I do support this site. I always buy a lot of tickets to the site's fundraiser raffles and regularly click through the site's ad banners whenever I'm shopping for something that is advertised on GT. But the memberships have always been some sort of etherial "send money and your luck will get better" sort of...meh. Like sending money to a TV preacher, or an anonymous check to public radio. Sure, I use the service, and support the service, but don't see the benefits of membership beyond a warm fuzzy. And my fuzzy stays plenty warm with my current methods of support.

Promise me the pop-up goes away with membership, and I'm in. It feels kinda like extortion, but I'm in. However, if that's what it takes to get the *******ed pop-up to stop so I can finally use the site on my smartphone, I'll do it. I won't be going out of my way to click through ads anymore, but my fuzzy will remain warm.

OK, I've read the entire thread; and I, still, don't know how to get rid of the Silverado ad? (I've, also, firmly made up my mind that I will never again buy another Chevrolet.) Cookies, or no cookies, that ad continues to follow me from page, to page, to page. I agree. After awhile it gets extremely annoying. (Kind 'a like Chinese water torture.)

For what it's worth, I started getting the pop-ups again a few weeks before my Platinum membership expired. It's one of the reasons I didn't renew it. If there were some actual benefits to the memberships, I'd imagine more people would buy them.

Also, I have a new Silverado, so the ad doesn't do much for me

I see these complaints all the time. I do not see any pop-ups, ever.

Can the pop up adds be moved to the side as to not cover the content. Thank you administrators. Very happy with the GT aside from popups.

The popups do seem to lock my computer's that are a few years older. Candidly, I disagree with the business decision to utilize them for non-paying members, as it does indeed inhibit my time spent here. I truly feel the real contributions here are intellectual rather than monetary. Other forums do seem to pay the light bill without resorting to what some have already opined as extortion.

But it is frustrating when you computer freezes on an ad.

I am new here, so here is my 2 cents.
1. I do not get any pop up adds.
2. I do get adds on the side which are firearm related .
3. I do not mind.
