New puppy might have distemper
I adopted a 3 month old siberian husky/german shepard from the local pound on thursday. I had to wait until today (monday) to pick her up as they had to spay her still. When we pick her up, they tell us she has had a lot of nasal discharge and it's probabably from a respiratory infection.
I immediately called our vet and took the puppy in 45 minutes later. The vet said it could be distemper. She is on antibiotics now to see if it clears things up. If antibiotics clear it up, then it's not distemper.
If it is distemper, I definately don't have the money to try and treat it. And if i did have the money to treat it, most dogs have long term problems even if they do recover. I will be devastated if I have to put her down. I've been looking for the perfect dog and then I found her by lucky circumstances. I just needed to get it off my chest. thanks.

Good luck with your puppy. Ours had kennel cough when we got him, and it turned into pneumonia. Then, he exhibited some of the syptoms of distemper, but it turned out to be giardia. No long-term affects from it.
Let us know how it turns out, and we pray that she gets better soon.

I'll pray it is not distemper. I've known a couple of distemper survivor dogs, and they have some minor and major neuro issues.

We adopted a 3 month old "blend" from the shelter and took her to the vet for shots including nasal kennel cough. The next day she was listless, could barely move and had a nasal and conjunctival discharge. She too was declared to have distemper. We elected to treated her with antibiotics as I thought she might have reacted to the nasal kennel cough vaccine. She's now over 6 years old (and can be quite a pain in the butt!).
It's very possible that she DOES have distemper, but it's really worth trying to treat her. I wish you (and her)the best as I know that it's very stressful. I know it was a tough few months for us but they're worth it.

I completely forgot about this thread but here's an update 6 years later.
Everything turned out fine and she is now a big pain in my rear end but gotta love her anyway. She is my first dog raising since a puppy and it's been a fun journey.
Can't see her eyes due to the flash but she has one brown eye, one blue.
