It needs to have a birds head grip and it's function is essentially the same as a snub nose revolver.

I prefer a Bird's head grip on my Winchester 1300. It's pretty subjective. A regular grip just beat the hell outta my hand. The Bird's head grip is angled to slide a wee bit instead of full recoil in the web of the grip hand.
