I hate iTunes!
Could someone please recommend a windows based alternative?
I am looking for something simple with drag and drop, just like windows explorer. I downloaded a couple so far with no luck.
Thanks,
Glen

Dude if you download a song in iTunes.....after you download it, you just drag and drop it onto your iPod. It's pretty easy

Does that actually work with an Ipod? I've always used Linux alternatives, but I never had luck with dragging dropping anything on an Ipod.
gglocker, I guess it depends on what you use Itunes for. If you're buying music with it, I'm not sure of to many programs.. I've always gotten my music from other sources, so I'm not sure how itunes handles this.
Have you saw this??

A lot of people complain about Itunes but I still think it's the best audio player out there...even if you don't have an ipod :/
Not to mention all the great podcasts you can get through the store for free. I'd suggest you try a work around, modify your saved folder settings, etc. It is a little aggravating until you get used to it but once you do...Itunes is pretty slick

I hate iTunes too. But mostly I look for advanced capabilities. If you're looking for simplicity, drag and drop and integration with the iTunes store, well, iTunes is most likely the best solution.

Make sure you set your ipod to "Manage ipod manually", using itunes to sync automatically sucks, but using it to just drag and drop manually works wonders.
Just go into your ipod when its connected to itunes, make sure that checkbox is enabled and try dragging and dropping songs to it.

Mike, had this program years ago and gave it a try with my ipod.
Not exactly what I was looking for, but after messing around with it, I am able to add or remove songs at ease and it is much faster than itunes. I download music from a file share site and then have another program that makes it work on the ipod. If I was to buy songs on itunes it might be ok, but I got tired of messing with multiple libraries every time one of us had to use it. Thanks for all of your help.

you do know that you can load different libraries right?
When you open up iTunes you hold the shift key. It will ask if you want to load a different library or create a new one. This is how i manage my iPod and my girlfriends iPod..Since we have different tastes in workout music.
Will that help you at all? Its pretty easy. Before you plug in your iPod, just hold the shift key and open up iTunes. Once it is open, then you plug in your iPod. Genius.
for the record. i have always hated iTunes..it is very heavy. In fact..it is too heavy. I am a big winamp fan...always have been..although i just use winamp to play mp3's.. Thats it. not iPod stuff, and not ripping.
Good Luck bro

Yes, I held down the shift and accessed the multiple libraries.
Problem was with that, they got mixed up or had more of them out there than I knew about.
Not to say that Winamp has been all roses. My wifes newer Nano seemed to work great with the latest version, where my older Nano made the music disappear when you unplugged it from the PC. It was still there, just had to download an older version of Winamp and a way we go. It really uploads music fast and is a lot less to fuss with than itunes.
Thanks,
Glen

Doesn't the dragging and dropping still have to be done from within iTunes? Seems like I once had my old iPod setup to drag and drop, but it was from within the program itself.
Now I just set up playlists an sync.

yeah you drag and drop the songs into iTunes. I usually drag them into my library. and then separately drag the library into my ipod, which syncs them together.

I just upgraded my iphone to 3.0 software and itunes deactivated my phone until I upgraded to itunes 8.2. Apple is more proprietary than even the dreaded Sony. Not to mention itunes always freezes when I close the program and I have to shut it down via the task manager.

I don't care much for iTunes either.
I've used SharePod before and was pleased with it; it's a small, easy to use program for transferring songs to/from your iPod.
If you want to retain a media libray feature a la iTunes, check out Songbird or Media Monkey.

I agree with this advice 100%. It is especially helpful if you listen to many podcasts (I have a 53 mile commute each way and listen to a lot of podcasts.) I like Microsoft products (no bashing please) but Apple has done a great job with iTunes, the iPods and iPhone. (I just got an iPhone at work and absolutely love it.)
