Model 60 No Dash & No Lock

Just bought one last week from the local gun store.. Been waiting for a long time for one to appear that was in great shape.. Probably spent too much $ for it but these don't show up very often.. Has AYBxxxx serial. Anyone here know what year the model 60 was built.. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated..

I just picked up a model 60 the other day. Mine is from 1980-81. You can never go wrong with the very first stainless steel revolver ever created!

I just picked up a S&W 60 yesterday with no dash and serial # starting with AFSxxxx it has a chrome trigger and a color case hardened hammer. Any idea when it was made? It is not a pinned barrel either. I thought the hammer and trigger were a bit odd but it appears as new.Will post pics soon.

Hmmm...yeah, I thought Smith & Wesson's stainless guns from back in the day all sported stainless steel EVERYTHING! Hammers, triggers, screws, guts, hell I heard somebody say that even the grip medallions were stainless steel. They claimed it was the perfect weapon for the sportsman. The AFS serial number should put your 60 in the mid 80's era - 1985-86 I believe. That's not an exact number, just an educated guess. Because I have a J frame model 38 no dash Airweight Bodyguard with serial number AHH57xx that books 1985-86.

I loves my model 60!

I am pretty sure that all S&W Model 60's had hard chromed triggers and hammers initially. I know they had some difficulty with the hammers breaking at one point and I think they used case hardened hammers for a short time. I don't think S&W EVER used stainless hammers and triggers, just flash chromed.

my old 60 has hard chrome trigger and hammer. its also a d.a.o.. the hammer is not bobbed, its a factory d.a.o. with no full cock notch. i have had it for ever, but i'm sure its one of the first 60s.

My model 60 is in 357, so yes it can handle +p. I like the 3" barrel & the little extra weight to tame the recoil. It's at the top for woods carry.

Bought my Model 60 in Nov.1968 and it was around $125.00 as my off duty weapon. That was a bit high at the time but they were very hard to obtain. This is still a good shooter and has been at the factory in the early 90's for a rebuild job. I hate to sound like an old fart but they Smith made better guns back then. The finish was better and the oiled walnut grips were very nice. Do not get me wrong because IMHO Smith still makes the best wheel guns out there.

I Have 2 framed ads, that one ane the Police one with the boat patrol hanging in my "office" at home. I bought my model 60 on my 21st birthday, and carried it as a BUG and off duty for over 20 years. It now rests mostly on a shelf in my safe, except for the occasional trip to the range.
