So I'm confused. At what price on what date can I get an OEM version for a new compute installed?

I have been running Windows 7 for about 3-months and love it. It is the first version of Windows that requires less hardware power than previous versions. In other words, there are computers that ran Vista very slow that were sidelined that will work quite well with Windows 7.

For a 50% discount I will probably order a full version. That way I can get this POS Vista completely off of my computer.

I'm running 7 on a VM on my MacBook Pro. It actually runs better than I expected, though I have found several software packages that won't run yet Symantec AV, Norton AV... I'm sure that will be fixed by October though. I still wonder why it's so expensive -vs- Mac OS X or Linux. For that matter, it should be a free upgrade for everyone who actually paid good money for Vista. Ah well...

A little shocked at the sticker price I saw there for a .1 version update?
I might just run 7232 till it bombs next year, and get the OEM.
I'm pretty sure the upgrade version is fine, cause it allows you to wipe your system once it determines you eligible to upgrade. Vista allowed for the same deal, however we had the vista to vista upgrade hack which I'm sure will be fixed.
Yea, I'm pretty geeky with these OS's, however I don't go to midnight releases anymore unless I can get Win7 Full for a hundred bucks!

I only see 50% discount on the upgrade versions, not the full versions which are $200.

I'm serious, they should only make it $50-$100 for a Vista U to Win7 U upgrade!!!!

Unless M$ changes its policy with Windows 7 the upgrade version will allow a user to do a clean install once it verifies that you have a qualifying product.
I don't recall this being the case with XP but with Vista the upgrade discs were not bootable, you could do a clean install but you had to start the process from the desktop of your current OS ... I bet M$ follows suit with Windows 7.

My Vista Upgrade is bootable, in fact I would boot via the disk and install without entering a Key. Once the fun was done and I'm at the desktop, I would insert the disk again, and do an upgrade using the key. Of course it sucked installing it twice, but I didn't need to install XP.
I remember when Windows 95 upgrade was released, and all you had to do was insert disk one of Windows 3.1, and you where good to go with a fresh install from a formatted HD!!!
I'm more than certain Win7 up is going to require Vista or XP to be activated to install. I just hope it doesn't can the Vista Key, so you can use it on another computer. I know OEM is technically supposed to die with the computer, but not so with retail.
BTW: I transferred my OEM's before, just tell them you changed a bunch of hardware
Actually the only question they ask me, was I installing it on more than one computer - ummm NO - OK good, here's your unlock key
Again I'll probably go with a full OEM, which typically cost the same as retail upgrade, to avoid all this crap!

You didn't get the memo that Macs suck? Plus you have to buy those little trendy square glasses to use it.
