quick dumb tv tuner question

I cut all the extra cable stations today, and am returning the cable box/dvr. All we will have is channels 0-100, standard definition delivered through our cable.

But, in our main room, we watch tv through our projector, which has no built in tuner.

What sort of device (low cost) can I buy to replace the dvr that will act as a tuner? I dont want to go the Tivo/subscription route. I dont need anything expensive with HD or recording ability. Just something to tune in the standard channels, with a remote (and s-video and an audio out).

What term should I be looking for? I dont think a converter box is it. "tv tuner box"?

"cable box" gets me links to all sorts of descramblers.

Sorry for the idiot question, im pretty tech savvy otherwise..

The VCR route would do just fine.

If you decide to cut cable, you'll need one of these:

since over-the-air signals have gone all digital.

What you want is an "External Set Top TV Tuner".
There are lots with lots of different features you may or may not want.
Just google it and make an informed choice.

Hah, didn't even think of the vcr route. I might have an old one.

And thanks Linux3, that's exactly the correct term. I wasn't using the "external set" portion.

I've already found a perfect one, but will do more research: http://www.barrel-of-monkeys.com/gra...s/hrt600.shtml
(My projector has a vga in)

If you are buying a VCR for the tuner, see if you can get one with a QAM tuner also. This should give you access to the free HD content on the cable. Both my LCD TV's and my PC have QAM tuners and I get my local stations in HD.

I was getting some on-demand movie channel, but it's gone now.

NTSC = the old analog broadcasting method and cable channels 1-125(?)
ATSC = the new digital over the air broadcasting method
Qam = cable digital broadcasting method
