Someone was selling a laptop on Craigslist for $25. That piqued my interest and I was lucky to be the first to respond.
I didn't expect much but when I got there it was a like new Dell Inspiron 6000. 1.3Gigahertz 2GB memory, 15.4" screen, 40GB HD He told me the hard drive needed 'cleaning' and the wireless didn't work. Battery was dead, too.
Oh, and when he boots it it blue screens with the message 'missing or corrupt HAL.dll'. I asked him why so cheap. he told me he was tired of messing with it and that his brother gave it to him 2 years ago and he hadn't used but a handful of times..and Best Buy told him it would cost $200.00 to fix.... By now I was salivating.
Got it home, pulled up the Recovery Console, did a chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr and voilą! Oh, had to install the wireless network adapter drivers.
Ya gotta love it. Sometimes computer knowledge comes in handy.
