Cabelas has bought the rights to the old Herter's name. It's believed that Tula Cartridge Works (Russia) is supplying all of the steel cased ammo. Some people are finding the handgun ammo stamped with WOLF and some don't identify who made it (no WOLF or any other ID on the headstamp, just the caliber).
PT. Pindad of Indonesia had a press release back on Oct 10, '09 that they are supplying a U.S. "sports shooting club" with 1M rounds of ammo (caliber not specified). Late last month Cabelas started selling brass cased .380 ammo in the Herter's brand line that just happened to be made in, yep, Indonesia. (Stamped: PT . PIN . 9X17).
So, if you like Tula brand steel cased ammo (basically WOLF Performance brand ammo), that's what it is. And from the pics on Cabela's website it looks like the steel case is not lacquered, but possibly using a much darker version of WOLF's "Polyformance" polymer coating.

Oh nice!!!
Man this is going to be one HELL of a deal for me...
If I site to store it at Cabelas that means NO SHIPPING!
Plus I have a coupon good up to $100, plus a $25 gift card, plus about $65 in club points....So I could pick up 2000rds which comes with 4 AMMO CANS for $340 OTD!
Now I do have to wait a week to place my order but that is a seriously sweet deal!!
It's sad that I paid $75 SHIPPED for my first case of Wolf ammo only 6 or 7 years ago at Centerfire Systems, so basically I'm paying over tripple to price I originally paid...but by today's standards, this is a good deal. That's actually REALLY sad!
Imagine what prices will be like in another 5 years!!! If prices stay on the path they've been on we're looking at $700 or so PER CASE!
Now some say there is an ammo bubble and, aside from the election/hoarding/panic pricing, it will eventually pop...but I've never seen any indications it's going to so I doubt the bubble will pop...it'll just become a larger and larger bubble. I hope I'm wrong though!!
In any case, thanks a lot for the info!
