SHAME on GANDER MTN

Gander MTN had 12 page insert in the Tampa and St Pete paper this morning with an ad on the back cover advertising LCP's for $349.00 (no bargin- you can buy them much cheaper most anywhere in the region) AND .380 Lawman 95 grain FMJ for $24.00/box with a $5.00 rebate coupon for a bottom line cost of $19.99.

I drove 20 miles out there and arrived before noon only to find no such .380. I asked the clerk if they had already sold out and was told that they never had any and did not know if they would have any. I asked why ther advertised that they did and said it would be better to try Midway or Cabelas.

Beware of their ad's and call if you have a local GM. Running ads like that for ammo these days and never having it is decieving and like yelling fire in a crowded movie house. I was not the only person over there to buy 380 either-surprise!! Not the way to build crediability for a new store in town.

They do that most likely because corporate makes one large blanket ad and then doesn't tailor it to each individual store, as it's probably cheaper to just make a blanket ad and apologize to unhappy customers.

When Gander Mountain puts a firearm on sale that usually means it is just a little bit more than I would pay other gun shops. Normally, their prices are so high they are laughable.

The first time I looked at Glocks was in a Gander Mountain. That sales guy just wasn't interested in helping me so I went to an independent shop about 5 miles away. The pistol was $90 less at the second shop and I bought it.

Thank you, Gander Mountain, for showing me the error of my ways.

Might want to reread the ad. The last page doesn't start until 2/28.

I stand corrected as I was reading the front page pf the ad that said " offers valid February 23 - March 19, 2014." Did not realize that they changed gears on page 12 to some other date. No excuse but I was not alone as there were a half dozen customers and several store clerks all thinking like me. Not deceiving but certainly confusing.

A great place to window shop, but I usually only buy very specific ammo there that I don't find elsewhere.

Their prices are usually very high on handguns. Some of their rifle prices are competitive, but not all.

Their ammunition is typically through the roof. That's why they're able to stay in stock.

They used to have good deals on used firearms, and it looks like they're getting back into used guns heavily again.

I've found their prices, along with Bass Pro Shops, are on the high side. I'll go to window shop, a good place to take a new pup we're breaking in to interact with things outside of the house and back yard, but for buying anything, I usually go elsewhere.

I went in to Gander Mountain just a few short days ago, and saw a few FN P90 magazines, but there was no price tag. I asked a very reluctant sales specialist what the price was, since I still don't have enough mags yet. The sales specialist looked up the price in the computer and nonchalantly says that they are $99 and some change. I politely asked him if he was sure that was the price, since I had just bought 5 factory mags at CDNN for $110. He stated yes thats the price it says. He later sees me looking at the ammo, and says he found them at midway, for $45. I had anticipated his move, and already had the midway price dialed into my phone and showed him that in fact they are $25 at midway. I asked him if they did price matching and he stormed off. It was kinda funny watching him waddle his 500 pound, gelatinous form back to his very abused seat.

I also like to look at the pistols in the case and ask why that a stock sighted Glock 19 cost $600 there, when I can go to the local gun store 3 minutes from that location and get a Trijicon sighted Glock 20 for $50 less.

Because people PAY THAT price. Those who don't get out, or think places like G.M. or Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas etc are the be all end all of sporting goods and outdoor products. They don't do their research.

I'd criticize Gander Mountain if every one of the big outdoor sports stores wasn't as bad or worse, along with half the local gun shops.

I have been in the market for a couple of Ruger Vaqueros, so I went to what I thought was a good gun shop in Lexington, KY, looking for used ones (Bud's didn't have nay used). They wanted $539 for ordinary, used, .357 Vaqueros. When I told them those guns were only $12 more brand new at Bud's, they acted like I was crazy and told me there was no way that was true. So I went to Bud's and bought 2 Vaqueros yesterday. Turns out I was wrong . . . Bud's only charged $10.95 more for brand new guns that they wanted for the same guns used.

I had a similar experience at GM. Last October, they advertised a Ruger SR1911 in stainless for $549 (incredibly low). I waited all week to see if they would retract. I drove from one corner of San Antonio to the other (about 45 mins) and looked for a retraction on the door. Got back to the gun counter and was informed that the price was in error and they didn't have any SR1911s in stock. If they had had any in stock, they would have been $799 ($50 over MSRP).

I haven't been back since.

I'm not a GM fan. I signed up for their email alert when they are shipping ammo into our local store. 3 times I went down to get some 22LR. Each time they said they didn't have any. hadn't seen any, didn't know when they would get any. On the fourth trip I spoke to one of the floor managers and asked what value the email was when they never had what the email said was being shipped? He began to tell me how they get tractor trailer loads of stuff in and it sometimes takes days for them to get it on the shelf and just because they send the email out doesn't mean they actually receive the ammo and so I said so the email is just a waste of time? They get their truck on Thursdays so Friday a week ago I went back at 11:00 am and low and behold they had some behind the counter and I was able to purchase 1-50 round box of cci stingers. I went back that evening and it was all gone. I don't think they will be in business here long. The employee attitudes don't make it a very enjoyable place to shop for me. I would rather support my LGS.

There are also a lot of people who are intimidated at gun shops, and would rather pay a higher price and feel comfortable. I know I felt intimidated at some gun shops before I knew what I was doing.

Gander in my town is staffed in my opinion know nothings that just get assined back there. I bought a 10/22 there once (I was dumb) and I had to ask what paperwork needed done (4473). I was almost out the door before they asked me too fill out a 4473.

Don't get me started on Natchez, they substituted different bullets then what I ordered and tried to claim the pictures and the product are not always the same. But there is a big difference between plastic tipped bow-tail and carbine.

GM is one of the companies that I don't do business with, because they rip off custumers.

I went to Gander Mountain near Auburn Al. last month. First time I ever visited one of their stores. Their handguns and ammo were so terribly over priced that I'll probably never bother to stop at another one.

They have their [redarmy] 762x39 listed at $79.99 for 180round range pack, which is just silly inflated. That is plenty enough reason not to shop there for me.
