Just saw that Hornady is expanding their Critical Defense line to include .45 acp. I may have to run a few boxes of those through my Colt. They feed very well in all of my 9mms.

HST's hands down. There are plenty of reports to back this up. http://le.atk.com/general/irl/woundballistics.aspx
Since I can't find them anywhere, I went with Winchester bonded PDX1 230 gr. (good enough for the FBI)
Third would be Gold dots from Double tap ammo.

Speer Gold Dot 230's and Speer Lawman 230's for range ammo. The Lawman 230's are designed to match the recoil and POA of the GD's for a lot less $$. This combo has worked flawlessly in both my 21 and 30. The cor-bon dpx is supposed to be the most accurate, but I haven't been able to get my hands on any yet.

230 gr ball (Winchester White Box) feeds reliably, allows quick recovery for a second shot, and will poke holes in heavy winter clothing, something some JHP's may have a problem with.

Not in 45, especially if you're shooting a bonded hollow point such at Gold Dots, etc.
I have heard of people carrying FMJ's in the winter if they are carrying a .380 but 45 would'nt have a problem with winter clothing.

Maybe it'll feed in anything, but it has a hard time keeping its jacket.
For Cor-Bon stick to the non-gimmick rounds and you'll be good.
I like corbon DPX, CCI speer gold dot, Federal HSTs and Winchester Ranger Ts. The OPs g21 wont have problems with any of these, as mine dosn't.

There are few poor choices in JHP fo rthe 45acp. What ever you decide, you MUST test them in YOUR pistol. Regardless of what anyone tells you works for them, it must work in your pistol. I suggest a minimum of one 25rd box of each brand you can find. If they all go bang from all your full carry mags, then they should be good to go. If you have three carry mags, then buy more ammo. It must be 1005 reliable or the "best performing" JHP means nothing.

Federal HST 230gr +p is what I feed my Glock. The HSTs are by far one of the best rounds I ever tested and my Glock 21 eats them like candy.
I have about 200 rounds of it left from when it actually was available, but it is next to impossible to find these days.

I get mine when I get into my time machine and go back to the day before Mr. Obama got elected, walk into my favorite store and grab as many 50 packs as I can carry from the open container on the counter marked "26.99 each", pay for them and walk back out to the time machine and return to the present.

Ranger-T and HST are the newest gen JHP and awesomely effective. Gold Dot and Golden Saber are a generation behind.

Corbon 185+p-JHP has a velocity of 1150fps & muzzle energy of 543fp!
It certainly will get someone's attention!

Why is everyone concerned about the Pow'r ball shedding its jacket?
I'm not gonna reload it. It is about the only round that has to open up. No hoping it doesn't clog with clothing. No hoping that your first stage of expansion is good enough for your talons to spread out. It employs one smooth gauranteed mechanical action. It brings all the benefits of a ballistic tip varmint bullet into the defensive realm. Including devastating trauma to the target. I have killed several things with the pow'r balls and believe me it does one heck of a job. I'll trade a few grains of recovered weight and a few inches of penetration for absolute reliability of feeding and expansion, coupled with immense power.

While I agree that HST and Ranger T series are top of the line, you better get ready for an onslaught of flames from the Gold Dot lovers. They are a cantankerous bunch.....

230gr. Double Tap Ammo bullet does a incredible 1,010 FPS.
It is a bonded Speer Gold Dot bullet, pushed to highest velocity.
It will put the most energy onto the target, 510 FT/LBS !
